Posted • .ac This home in Charlestown was a thorough gut and addition, inclusive of a modern, efficient exterior building envelope. The effort poured into the performance of the home - from insulation, to air sealing and of course the all-electric mechanical systems - results in a fully modern home fit for its time. But its character holds onto and celebrates its history alongside its modern reinvention. Pictured here is the 2nd floor den where we couldn’t help but preserve and expose this vestige of its original life.

The original was not being used to its full potential. To better utilize the small and cramped kitchen, we removed the dividing wall leading to the formal dining room and combined the two spaces. Removing the wall gave our team an additional 180 sq. ft. to play with, allowing us to add 308 ln. ft. of custom cabinetry all along the exterior walls, plus a 15′ island in the center of the room. The expansion also allowed for new windows and more light to enter the space, giving the room a bright and airy look. Swipe to see the before!
