To promote the arts and a thriving arts scene in Nashua, NH
Happy New Year! Well, it’s almost 2024 and time for us to say goodbye. After twenty years of service to the greater Nashua community, we are closing our virtual doors. On Monday December 18 the Board of Directors adopted a resolution to dissolve the nonprofit corporation. We are now in the process of completing required paperwork for the State of New Hampshire and the IRS. Our website will soon be archived and Facebook and Instagram accounts will become dormant.
To the hundreds of artists and many arts organizations we have worked with and supported in the greater Nashua region, you are the reason City Arts Nashua was founded and we are grateful beyond measure for your creativity, participation, and support.
To all who have served on the Board, volunteered, and donated to support our work, thank you. Without you, we would not have been able to serve our community and help make Nashua the arts destination it is today.
As we close our doors, we encourage you to continue to support Nashua’s incredible arts community in every way you can. We look forward to all that is to come for .
With deepest appreciation and love,
City Arts Nashua

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate! This week we’re looking back at the Nashua International Sculpture Symposium. City Arts Nashua served as the Symposium’s fiscal sponsor until 2019, when the group became an independent nonprofit.
The Nashua International Sculpture Symposium is an annual community event designed to elevate the awareness and appreciation of public art in Nashua. Nashua is the only city in the U.S. which hosts an annual international sculpture symposium. Artists are invited from around the world to spend three weeks in Nashua creating public art. Residents host the artists in their homes, bring meals as they work, provide transportation, and interact with the artists as they create. The completed sculptures are then placed in public places.
As well as bringing public art to the community, the Nashua International Sculpture Symposium also educates the artists about creating large-scale sculpture pieces, exposes the public to different cultures and sculpture techniques and creates sustainable art in the City.
Sculptors are chosen for their ability to contribute positively to the artistic and cultural development of Nashua. The goal is that the Nashua International Sculpture Symposium will help improve the quality of life for both visitors and residents alike.
The first Symposium was held in 2008 and hosted sculptors from the Czech Republic, Cuba, Ireland, Vietnam, and the United States: Vaclav Fiala; Tomas Oliva; James Gannon; Mai Thi Thu Van; and John Wiedman, the Symposium’s Artistic Director.

Wonderful article.
A town fell on hard times. Hundreds of giant nutcrackers revived it. “The second year, we had 75 nutcrackers and we just kept going from there,” Mark Nelson said about the Ohio town.

We’re back to ArtWalk this week! Many thanks to Paul Shea of Great American Downtown for directing us to a treasure trove of photos from 2015, taken by former New Hampshire State Council on the Arts director Ginnie Lupi, who kicked off the event on September 12! The photo of Paul with the banners was taken by his lovely wife, Julie Shea.
