Ford Diesel trucks with the 6.0 and 5r110w have a very common issue with direct clutch, which is applied in 5th, 6th, and Reverse. The drum is fed through the center support, into the center of the drum. As the 2 small bushings that hold it straight on the center support begin to wear, the drum rocks back and forth, causing a large leak in direct clutch, which can cause shift flares, loss of overdrive, or a loss of reverse. Thankfully Dura-Bond makes a 1 piece wide bushing, that not only restores the clearance between the drum and support, but adds extensive life to the bushing, and direct clutch.

Call us today if you need help getting your shift together.

We can't stress enough how nasty your cooler gets after a failure, this was a brand new unit, has maybe a mile or 2 on it. We pulled it out, and had to clean out every or***ce where crap dumped right out of the cooler into their new trans after the customer installed it. We then hot flushed the cooler, and in the pic you can see the second run of the Precision of New Hampton, Inc. Hot Flush machine, the first time looked worse. The days of brake cleaning out a cooler are sadly behind us, a bad failure will infest every facet of your cooler, radiator, and transmission lines. If you're installing yourself, it's best to install an aftermarket cooler, or a new radiator to avoid this.

This is why it's so important to know where you take your vehicle. This truck had just came from another shop, where it was built 3 times, each time lost overdrive. This is a very common issue with 4l60/700r4s. The steel shaft is pressed into an aluminum drum, the feed holes line up inside the drum, with holes in the shaft, over time they get loose and cause premature clutch failure. On every single unit we press these shafts out, clean them and reinstall them with Loctite 602 race retainer. This could have been easily avoided. As always, call us when you need to get your shift together. 6156802862

A few weeks ago we took a leap and finally hired a Front desk/shop manager. What a pick we got with Ty Gaw, he's always been such a great friend, but man what an asset he's been. From making sure things run a little smoother, to answering phones, organizing cars, and basically anything and everything he possibly can. We're super proud to have him and hope that we can only build from here and keep rising as a business and a team! Thanks Ty!

Remember folks, you get what you pay for. Don't trust the guys selling themselves short, because they aren't making less money, you're getting less product!

Input shafts, it's what's for breakfast.

This is why flushing the cooler is so important, this is from a fresh bench rebuild. Sometimes brake cleaner or a can of cooler clean isn't enough. All that clutch material hides out in the cooler or radiator and will dump into your brand new trans. Plugged solenoids can't actuate correctly, and most certainly can't raise line pressure as needed. After pulling the pan and cleaning the solenoids, you can see how muxh material we were able to get out of the cooler using the hot flush machine. I know we always sound like a broken record, but this is why, we don't want it to cost you valuable time, money, and also getting upset with us when it's out of our control.

As we approach the holiday season and wrap up this year, we want to give a huge shoutout to all of our customers who have continued to support us!

We have learned alot this year and hope to only continue to learn and progress as time goes on.

We have made a ton of changes in the past month or so that we hope continue to innovate and push our business to a new level. From administrative, down to the labor side of things. We have critiqued ourselves and are finding new ways to improve everyday.

So here is to another year, and many more to come, hopefully each year better than the last. 🍻

Shiftwerks Transmissions was established in 2020, we started with just 2 employees and 1 lift and have quickly grown to 4 employees and 3 lifts. What sets Shiftwerks apart from the competition is the immense amount of pride taken by all 3 of the Techs in the shop. With a combined 35+ years in the professional industry Ty, David, and Casey know exactly what it takes to do the job correctly and want nothing less for our customers. Shiftwerks is always making sure we have the most up to date industry leading tools and equipment like our Hotflush machine that's makes sure every cooler is perfectly clean, and flow and leaks are checked every time, to and special tool required to do all the jobs we take in. From tuning, Rebuilding, Reconditioning valve bodies and pumps using vacuum checking, all the way down to Ty making sure your cooler is perfectly level, we make sure the job is as quality as it can get.
The days of an overhaul kit and clutches fixing a transmission are over sadly, that's why we keep up to date with the latest seminars and parts it takes to get to the root of the problem, instead of just patching it up. We want to make sure you get exactly what you pay for, and that is not only a repair, but a shop you can trust, knowing it will be right, and when things do happen, we stand behind our work to the fullest. We will always give the most honest opinions, even when they may not be in our favor. Shiftwerks doesn't just want your business, we want your trust and your confidence that we will get you back on the road.

While we all know 4l60s have issues with the 3/4 clutch, alot of that issue stems from the input drum. Now there are a few options for aftermarket input drums that we use, there is also an alternative to buying an expensive custom input drum.

We use a collection of parts from Raybestos, Sonnax, TransGo, and Superior to make one top quality factory style input drum.
Utilizing a Superior 3/4 relief capsule
Sonnax HD apply and pressure plates, and, reinforcement kit with billet piston.
Transgo high rpm spring kit.
Raybestos frictions and steels.
We also press out every shaft and reinstall with Loctite 609 race retainer to ensure no leaks around the shaft!

With this combo we're able to really make the factory drum stand out, and pack a punch!

Our boy Dante called and said he had a turbo car needing a good 60e, so as usual we have to break the stigma and show what 60s can really be capable of with the correct parts. Sonnax and TransGo have the secret recipe to making the ole 4Lslippy a whole new animal! Still waiting on a few things, but this unit is gonna be ready ready.

06/01/2022

So we always get asked what all comes in our 4l60e. We do our best to address all issues in these trans as almost every Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban, Escalade, Sierra, S10, etc. from 93-13, come with them optioned. Other than the standard Overhaul kit, converter, filter, etc.. We also include: Hardened sun shell, both shift solenoids, Electronic pressure control solenoid, Sonnax 1/2 and Forward Pin less Billet accumulator pistons, wide stator bushings, wide rear sun gear bushing, TransGo updated valve body plate, Transgo boost valve, Transgo pressure regulator valve, Transgo oversized Actuator Feed Limit Valve, BorgWarner input and low reverse Sprags, Raybestos Frictions and Wide Kevlar band, Superior servo release valve, and Block 4th accumulator. We also from time to time option in a Corvette style servo.

Well, we didn't see this coming, but we've added another guy to the crew. Announcing our good friend Cory Page as another builder, and head of bench building. Hopefully this will greatly help with lead times and keeping everyone on the road in a timely manner. Cory is very knowledgeable and learning more daily as we all are, we are eager to see what he can bring to the table for Shiftwerks as we help everyone get their shift together.

04/01/2022

Our guys attended the 2022 Whatever It Takes Transmission seminar. They stay current with the latest knowledge so that we can give the best quality product to our customers. Thanks to WIT for organizing the event and to the experts for sharing their expertise. In case of transmission problems, we will always be able to assist.

03/12/2022

We were very happy to be able to pair with our long time friend John Bode at Pretty Quick Muffler and Brake to help out a good cause! Also look out for your community, and it will always look out for you.

This is one of the main keys to making 4l60s live, that is so widely overlooked. The factory style accumulators use a pin through the center of a plastic piston. Of course over time, the pin starts wearing into the plastic piston, causing a hydraulic leak. Thanks to Sonnax we can drive the pin out, hammer in a ball, and install a billet, wider, pin-less piston that can never leak. We place these in every location in all of our 4l60s. regardless or stock, or high performance.

Well she did her best, and made it a little over a year, but today we had to make a small upgrade. Hopefully this one will last us quite a bit longer! Thanks Snap-on Tools!
