After 3 flights over the course of 26 hours, I just landed in Kenya and wanted to offer some quick tips on how to survive long haul flights.

1. Resist the urge to over indulge in the free beer & wine that’s often provided on long haul flights…but 1 or 2 won’t hurt. 🥂

2. Drinks tons of water before, during, and after the flight.

3. Go ahead and sleep on the plane as if you’re in the time zone you are traveling to.

4. Natural sleep aids like melatonin and lavender essential oils helps you relax and calm those exciting travel nerves.

5. Get comfy! Memory foam neck pillows, eye mask, and sound canceling ear plugs helps you find relaxation even in a tight space.

The European Tourist Tax or ‘city tax’, consists of a fee that applies per person, per night. The tourist tax is payable locally, and usually at check out from your accommodation.

The rates vary from the type of accommodation and its location. The higher the rating of the accommodation, the more you will have to pay. Eastern EU countries have lower rates than Western and South-eastern EU countries. However, the amount of the tourist tax is decided by the city or the municipality and can change annually.

Everyone has to pay tourist taxes, however, there are some exemptions depending on the city:
-Children often pay reduced rates or are exempt entirely.
-Persons with a disability and one accompanying person.
-Patients admitted to health facilities.
-Workers within the city.

To be exempt from paying tourist taxes, you have to prove your situation with the appropriate documents.

Due to over-tourism in Europe, the taxes are considered as resources to protect the environment, cultural heritage, or social purposes of a destination.
