Today we are thrilled to offer previews of María Magdalena Campos-Pons: Behold and LaJunéMcMillian: The Portal’s Keeper—Origins, both of which will be on view through January 5. Visit FristArtMuseum.org for exhibition-related programs happening tonight through Saturday afternoon.
This Thursday night, María Magdalena Campos-Pons collaborates with Kamaal Malak to bring back A Mother’s River of Tears, an immersive performance rooted in Yoruba ancestral rituals. This powerful piece, which debuted at the Brooklyn Museum, reflects the healing themes of Behold and honors the lives of Black men and women whose stories were tragically cut short by injustice.

The Price You Pay, by Anna McDowell of Hendersonville High School, is one of thirty two stunning works selected for 2024 Young Tennessee Artists: Selections from Advanced Studio Art Programs, an exhibition of art by students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) studio art programs during the 2023–24 academic year. This exhibition will be on view through Mar 16, 2025.

From the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum, ¡Printing the Revolution! showcases the richness, vitality, and complexity of Chicano life in the United States. Inspired by the civil rights and movements of the 1960s and beyond, Chicano artists used prints and posters to reflect their culture and advocate for equal justice and human dignity for their communities and other marginalized people around the world.
La exhibición ¡Printing the Revolution!, proveniente del Smithsonian American Art Museum, resalta la riqueza, vitalidad, y complejidad de la vida chicana en los Estados Unidos de América. Inspirada por los derechos civiles y los movimientos antiguerra de los años 60 y posteriores, los artistas chicanos usaron grabados y posters para mostrar su cultura y abogar por la justicia igualitaria y la dignidad humana en sus comunidades y para otras personas marginalizadas en todo el mundo.
