Charlotte 05/07/2023

To everything there is a season,

A time for every purpose under heaven
Ecclesiastes 3:1

Dear Friends of Logos,

I have very sad news to share. Our precious shop dog, Charlotte, died Saturday morning. Charlotte was the "official" Logos Bookstore greeter for 12 years. She loved coming to the store and being part of the activity there. Our son, Joseph, found Charlotte in a cage on the side of the road. There was a dead sibling in the cage with her. Joseph brought her home and she became a very important part of our family life. We started taking Charlotte to Logos with us immediately. She quickly became a favorite with many customers who looked for her when coming in the door. Charlotte was a gift God gave us for a time and we will miss her terribly.
At church this morning we sang this song by Matt and Beth Redman,

Blessed Be Your Name
In the land that is plentiful
Where Your streams of abundance flow
Blessed be Your name

Blessed Be Your name
When I'm found in the desert place
Though I walk through the wilderness
Blessed Be Your name

Every blessing You pour out, I'll
Turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I will say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

Blessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name

Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name

Every blessing You pour out I'll
Turn back to praise
When the darkness closes in, Lord
Still I'll say
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be the name of the Lord
Blessed be Your glorious name

You give and take away
You give and take away
My heart will choose to say
Lord blessed be Your name

After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands

Revelation 7:9

Dear Friends of Logos

We are always excited to invite you to a booksigning, but this one speaks so closely to our hearts. Many of you know that we were missionaries in Papua New Guinea years ago. We have always had a desire to see the Gospel spread to every corner of the world and hope that the books and Bibles sold at Logos will in a small way help to accomplish that goal.
Our friend Fouad Masri will be at Logos on Saturday, March 25th from 11:00-2:00 pm to share with you the wonderful work of Crescent Project and to sign his new book,
Sharing Jesus with Muslims: A Step-By-Step Guide.
Come hear this informative and encouraging author.

"Who better than Fouad Masri to give the Church a tutorial on reaching Muslims for Jesus Christ? I can think of no one. In this book, Brother Fouad lets you into his world, his years of sharing his life and love for the Lord Jesus Christ with countless Muslim men and women. As you walk with him, you too will gain confidence to obey our Lord’s commission to make disciples of all nations, including the Muslim ones."

Dear Friends

Logos will be closed tomorrow for New Year's Day. We will open again Tuesday for regular business hours:
10:00-6:00 Mon- Sat

“Of all persons the Christian should be best prepared for whatever the New Year brings. He has dealt with life at its source. In Christ he has disposed of a thousand enemies that other men must face alone and unprepared. He can face his tomorrow cheerful and unafraid because yesterday he turned his feet into the ways of peace and today he lives in God. The man who has made God his dwelling place will always have a safe habitation.” Aiden Wilson Tozer

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:`13-14

Tomorrow! Randall Morgan at Logos from 11-2 12/17/2022

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.

Joy to the World, the Lord is come!

Dear Friends of Logos

Randall Morgan will be at Logos tomorrow,
Dec 17th from 11-2 to
talk about and sign his new book
Heart Warrior: An Aortic Dissection, a High-Profile Journey, and a Mended Life
Randall has told his story in order to encourage others in their Christian walk as they go through trials and tribulations, growing in faith and relying on God's grace in the journey.

Heart Warrior chronicles Randall Morgan's remarkable rise in the country music business in Nashville, to an international ministry of music and hope, to having one of the most unique heart surgeries-an aortic dissection-that became an advertising hit docu-drama. Randall has a unique gift to touch people and inspire them with hope and faith. This is a compelling story of how the heart he freely shares with others became the organ that needed a miracle. On the edge of death, Randall emerges with a narrative of God's faithfulness switching back and forth from his diagnosis in Budapest, and his personal journey of Faith-from religion to relationship-leads us to the very heart of God.

Tomorrow! Kelly Motley will be at Logos 07/22/2022

Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air.

1 Corinthians 9:25

Friends of Logos!

Tomorrow, Kelly Motley will be at Logos from 1pm to 2pm.
She has authored the book,
The Fight for My Life: Boxing Through Chemo
which chronicles how boxing helped her navigate through a breast cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy.
Kelly and I will have an "in-store conversation" about how the athletic discipline of boxing was helpful to her in her battle against cancer. We are going to discuss how and why the Apostle Paul used athletic metaphors when encouraging us in the Christian life. Come join the conversation! I am praying the Holy Spirit will guide our words and bring glory to God!
Blessings to you all,
Cindy
Logos Bookstore

Stormie Omartian said, “Kelly Motley’s book is about spiritual hope and power and courageously getting into the ring when facing your worst enemy. In her case it is a formidable cancer opponent. This is one of the best written books I have read and there is an important lesson for everyone who reads it. She does not gloss over her raw feelings or her struggles as she has to deal with each new stage, disappointment, and complication. She faced her worst fears head on – including near death – and came out the other side stronger than ever. Whenever I have to face my worst fear or greatest enemy, I intend to read this book again to remind me how to do it.”

"But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14

Book Signing at Logos, Tuesday June 28, 5-7 06/24/2022

Two e-mails in one day! We have never done that before. But, we do want to let you know that we have a book signing coming up Tuesday evening. RS Perkins will be at Logos to talk about and sign copies of his new book:

Tensile Town, a novel

Perkins is a singer and songwriter from Portsmouth, Ohio. He has traveled the United States in the back of cluttered vans and 747s, taking his music to rural bars in North Carolina and The Bitter End in New York City—accumulating treasured stories about American life. The author is an ordained deacon and lives for Jesus Christ. RS Perkins currently resides in Nashville with his wife and son. Tensile Town is his first novel.

The Strength Of Friendships Is Being Tested By The Times -

After World War II when this suburb of Appleton was forged out of the hills, Marigold was a place where anyone would want to raise a family. It is 1967, though, when free love, L*D, Pop psychology, and Vietnam have begun to wear at the thread that binds body and mind, truth and family. Reading the Bible has been relegated to something quaint that only the previous generation cherishes.

Danny, Barry, Jeff, and King have been Marigold friends since childhood, but the normal chaos supplied by raging teenage hormones has been supercharged by the times, just like the modified cars they drive. A fly-over view of the town does not capture how Barry has no interest in following in the footsteps of his unrelenting doctor father. Nor do you see Jeff's mom's drunken boyfriend who has taken up residence in their house. Danny has never known his mother, Beatrice, but he has purpose and is excited about a Christian awakening in southern California. King just floats through it all.

Tensile Town is an epic and honest story about life and death in small-town southern Ohio. The foundation of American life is cracking as it encounters protests, godlessness, assassinations, and attacks from within, but hope is found, and providence prevails.

Opportunity to hear Dr Carol Swain speak this Sunday 06/24/2022

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Ephesians 5:15-16

Dear Logos Family,

Things have not changed since the Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesian church! The Bible also says, "For the Lord gives wisdom;
from his mouth come knowledge and understanding." Proverbs 2:6
We are so grateful that we have God's Word readily available to us to teach us wisdom and understanding. Even when other things seem uncertain, "Every Word of God proves true." Proverbs 30:5.

This Sunday brings an opportunity to hear Dr Carol Swain speak about our current cultural situation. Dr Swain has been called by the Lord to share her insight and understanding with others. Praise God, she is willing to follow that call! Come hear her speak this Sunday.

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5

Dear Logos Family,

will make a great Father's Day gift. John, a local author, surgeon, and family man, will be at Logos Thursday, June 16th from 5-7.

As a heart surgeon, John Austin often left early and stayed late at the hospital, so he supplemented the guidance of his three children for 17 years with inspirational quotes, usually pasted to the refrigerator on a sticky note. Now his collection of over 600 quotes have been compiled into this beautiful book, one that is sure to help you in your parenting journey.

I know that John's story resonates with many men balancing the many demands on their lives. Come Thursday evening and meet a fellow traveler on the journey.

O death, where is your victory?

O death, where is your sting?
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
I Corinthians 15:55-57

So appropriate for the celebration of our Savior's resurrection is an understanding of His blessed pursuit of His children.

Have a blessed Easter celebration!
"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"
2 Corinthians 9:15

When Jesus shifts the character narrative, so will we as you examine your life in light of the religious self-righteous and judgmental among the audience—though they were so upset there were “sinners” in the crowd, they may have paid less attention to this message He directed straight at them.

Only then can you truly confront the prodigal within and understand the great news that we are never so lost we cannot be found! And on the other side of that decision, a loving Father patiently awaits your humbled return.

If Christianity is so Good, Why are Christians so Bad?

If Christianity is so Good, Why are Christians so Bad?
This question has been asked by Christians and non-Christians alike for millennium! Contents of the book include:
Introduction

Are You Sure About That? The Problem of False Professors
Are You Sure About That? Doubtful Narratives
Who's Counting?

Antibodies: Beyond Home and Congregation

The Rest of the Story
Each chapter includes a summary of the main points.

If Christianity is so Good, Why are Christians so Bad? is part of The Big Ten: Critical Questions Answered series which is an apologetics series addressing ten commonly asked questions about God, the Bible, and Christianity. Each book, while easy to read, is challenging and thought-provoking.

The following are quotes from recommenders and reviewers of the book:

This book doesn't whitewash the bad behaviour of many Christians, but it also offers some helpful insights, theological context, and practical wisdom for how Christians can respond to this important challenge.
--Sean McDowell (Professor of Christian Apologetics, Biola University, La Mirada, California Best-selling author and popular speaker)

This book models concise expression, shrewd logic, clear organization, subtle wit, brutal honesty, graphic illustration, cultural savvy, and charitable characterization of opponents. It answers the title's question as much by showing how to think about the matter as by seeking out best answers.
--Robert W. Yarbrough (Professor of New Testament, Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri). both answers honest questions about Christians and the Christian faith and serves as an encouragement to any believer who wants to follow Christ more faithfully.
--Tom Ascol (Pastor, Grace Baptist Church, Cape Coral, Florida)

Over the last 25 years whilst running Christianity Explored courses at my local church - All Souls, Langham Place - I have had to say on every course that the poet Swinburne said, 'I would love Christ, where it not for his leprous bride, the church.' I then plead with people to not allow their experience of so-called Christians in the church to stop them looking at Jesus. This book will be a very helpful tool for us at All Souls with some people who come to investigate but have had their hearts broken by the behaviour of Christians they've known. I'm so grateful for it and have already made a mental list of those whom I need to send it to.
--Rico Tice (Author, Christianity Explored & Associate Minister at All Souls Church, Langham Place, London)

Christians are supposed to be new people, not just forgiven people; but they still sin, sometimes in scandalous ways. So how should Christians answer this objection, often raised in evangelistic settings? Dr. Mark Coppenger offers a strategy for doing so that is biblical, accessible, honest, and seasoned with wit and wisdom.
--Thor Madsen (Professor of New Testament, Ethics and Philosophy, Midwestern Theological Seminary, Kansas City, Missouri)

Mark Coppenger will be signing copies of his book, Saturday March 26th 1-3 pm at Logos

Update on the update! 11/05/2021

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures here below.
Praise Him above you heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
Doxology

Dear Friends of Logos,

Late today we realized that the new storefront will not be ready to move the fixtures tomorrow (Friday) morning as planned. Instead, we will be moving the boxes starting at 7:00 AM. We have enough pick up trucks and a trailer for the early morning. Our greatest need at this point is Saturday. We will be moving the fixtures in the early morning and putting the books on the bookcases in the afternoon. If you can help with either of these chores, please come at your convenience.

A huge "THANK YOU!" to the many volunteers yesterday and today. It is beyond amazing how much has been accomplished. We would never be even close to moving without such wonderful help!

Grace & Peace
