WE’RE MOVING!!
Bittersweet day yesterday as we said goodbye to an office location that started as a satellite office, then served as an unintentional refuge for our business for over 3 years.
It helped a small business survive a pandemic, it allowed us to reach more patients then we could have imagined, and now, it serves as a great steppingstone to a new and improved home for years to come….
Excited to start a new chapter, and offer more services for our patients, at our new home!…15 Tech Circle, Natick.
Pictures of the old to say goodbye…new pictures to come Monday!!

After a whirlwind year thus far, it feels great to top off a busy July at the office (and on the field) with a trophy! Proud of the grind from both the FSC team and these little guys.
Busy Saturday!
Dr. Bernstein crushing it at the office while Dr. Fiola builds champions/herds cats on the field.
Flashback to working with at the start of March. Always fun when she stops by the office!
Whether you are one of the Fittest in the World, a high school/college athlete, or a weekend warrior... it’s always important to take some time to make sure your body is cooperating with you.
Our unique blend of manual therapy and corrective movement (active release of hip flexor shown here, paired with animal flow) is an effective way for all athletes to ensure their body meets the baseline prerequisites of whatever their sport requires.
When performing at a high level, all athletes will adapt movement patterns in order to excel, and if we don’t keep these compensations in check, eventually we pay the price.
It’s been a great second week back at the office! We thank all of our clients for cooperating with protocols, making the transition back to business as smooth as possible. We will continue to follow these protocols until further notice.
Thanks for your continued support, and if you need to get on the schedule please don’t hesitate to call/text, 978-443-0989.
We are also still available virtually to our clients who cannot make it to the office.
Stay healthy and stay safe!
Active Release (A.R.T) is an invaluable tool we utilize at our offices. Many of our clients come in with repetitive stress/overuse injuries. These injuries are typically the result of cumulative “micro-trauma” to muscles, ligaments or joints. This microtrauma can cause a buildup of scar tissue or “adhesions” in the area, which then leads to loss of function, movement compensation and injury.
A.R.T allows us to restore the healthy, pliable function to these damaged structures. We are then able to anchor these changes through proper corrective movement re-education (exercise).
During this down time our hands are getting some much needed rest…so when we re-open (not too much longer now), these treatments will be more fun (and more effective) than ever!
DON’T FEAR THE DEADLIFT. Far too often, we have clients come into the office injured after deadlifting and they never want to touch the exercise again. We feel it is valuable to teach our clients how to properly pick something heavy up off the ground.
A major flaw we recognize with clients, is failure to keep the lat muscle firmly engaged during the deadlift. When the lat fails, the low back is next in line to take the brunt of the weight, and nothing good will come of that.
This exercise is a great way to get a feel for what your lats should do during a deadlift. Move slow. Learn the feel, and build a stronger foundation for the deadlift exercise.
PERFECTING THE PUSH
Pain at the front of the shoulder during a push-up is a very common issue we treat at the office.
Educating an athlete is the best step towards recovery and reducing the risk of future injuries. Treatment can help to heal an injury, but correcting the movement flaw is the key to fixing the problem.
The shoulder diving forward at the bottom of the push-up can irritate a number of structures. Training clients to control their descent (“rowing themselves to the floor”) and then re-educating them on where the push needs to initiate (serratus anterior, or “the muscle on your ribs”) is an effective way we fix this problem at the office.
This exercise does a great job “introducing” an athlete to their serratus muscle and teaching them how to best utilize it with a push.
Research is starting to show that in the next 5 years, generalized anterior (front) shoulder pain will likely overtake the lower back as the most common area of chronic pain complaints.
This is not surprising because we demand A LOT of our shoulder (pushing, pulling, overhead and rotation).
Looking at the row, a common flaw we see at the office is the “flying elbow”. This mechanical dysfunction can irritate the front (and back) of the shoulder And eventually the “chronic” pain shows it’s head.
Spend your downtime slowing things down and rebuilding the patterns. Move slowly and get to know the muscles that control the the SHOULDER BLADE. Emphasizing the coordination of the shoulder blade and the arm as you row, can help to normalize the movement and calm irritated structures.
Life tends to force us into long periods of flexion, often not balanced out by equal amounts of extension.
Rather than just saying “don’t slouch”, we give our athletes exercises to encourage proper extension in the areas of the spine that tend to need it the most.
This is a great exercise to encourage thoracic (mid back) extension, while also providing a great lat and triceps stretch. If your back and shoulders are feeling a bit more stiff than usual during quarantine, give this a try.
As with any exercise we share, please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions. Call or text 978-443-0980.

We had a great Saturday talking shoulders with the athletes of CrossFit Firewall! We focused on what “normal” shoulder movement should feel like when the proper muscles and movement patterns are utilized. We spent time on the biomechanics of pushing and going overhead to help athletes to minimize pain and to reset after tough workouts.
We also brought along the Normatec recovery pants and the Hypervolt for folks to enjoy! Great Saturday with a great crew! Thank you Firewall for having us!
