We are right in the middle of a terrific summe rOlympics now! Some of the best athletes from all over the world have come to Paris to compete and represent their countries and some are the greatest athletes their sports have ever seen.. It's always exciting to see what country can win the most gold medals and the most overall. It is a great time in sports as we get to see so many new sports, new stars, and great performances. We also get to see some familiar legends representing their countries such as Simone Biles on team USA gymnastics, who is continuing to add to her already impressive medal count and showcase her brilliance. The United States once again looks like a force to be reckoned with in these Olympics. Try to predict how many gold, silver, and bronze medals that the United States wins. Hello folks........I wanted to say Happy Father's Day ; hope it was a great one.......so many of you have become more than customers ...even loyal customers .....you've become friends......and often very loyal and good friends.....at times, Gilbert's feels like a younger version of Cheers....and one of my favorite parts of being in the store are our conversations about sports,,,,and sometimes about life......I feel very fortunate that you share your families with ours......it has been one of the greatest things about doing this for 35 years......so...thank you...it really means a lot.....two more things ; can somebody reassure me about the Celtics tomorrow?.....boy , what an ugly game 4....but......let's hope they close this out tomorrow...so......show your confidence by picking tomorrow's score.......the closest will $25 in store prizes......$35 if you nail the winner and spread.........personally I'd like a blowout.......and hopefully we can talk about title 18 in the store soon......one last thing: Amy and I just got off a video call with Becca.......she is back from Italy on Saturday (finally!!).......she asked that I mention she will be doing some "sitting" if anybody has the need......I might be a little biased but i can honestly say that she is the best I've ever seen...with kids of all ages...I still learn from watching her all the time....so...if there is interest please email me and I'll connect you .....and I could not recommend anyone any higher!!...........well....that's it for now....i really did want to say thanks to all of you as always but especially to the Dads.....hope it was a wonderful day.......all the best , Gary, Amy and Becca

Hello everyone,
After more than 7 months of the regular season and 3 rounds of the playoffs, we have finally arrived at the apex of the NBA season: The Finals. The Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks will face off for the chance to be written in the history books forever. The Celtics are coming off a sweep of the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals. They are led by Jayson Tatum and Eastern Conference Finals MVP Jaylen Brown. Tatum and Brown have been excellent on both offense and defense this season and Tatum has really started to heat up down the stretch of these playoffs. Their backcourt of Jrue Holiday and Derrick White has been shutting down opponents all year as well as providing timely scoring. The Celtics will also welcome back center Kristaps Porzingis, who is reportedly ready to return for game 1 of the Finals after missing more than a month with injury. The Celtics will face off against the Western Conference champs, the Dallas Mavericks. The Mavs are led by Western Conference MVP Luka Doncic who has been sensational passing, scoring, and rebounding all year. His backcourt mate Kyrie Irving has also been a great complement to Luka, with both players being capable of taking over a game. The Mavs also have a great group of supporting players like Dereck Lively, P.J. Washington, and Daniel Gafford. All three of them play hard and can provide valuable defense and rebounding.Washington and Gafford were trade deadline additions and turned a weak Dallas defense into what has been a strong one so far in these play-offs so contest time; predict who will win and in how many games. Also try to predict who will win Finals MVP. For an extra challenge, try to predict which player will score the most total points and the total in the series.Up to over $400 in prizes which I chance for a $400 if somebody nails all categories. Will the Celtics hang a record-breaking Banner 18? Will Luka get a championship and announce his candidacy for legendary status in league history? Only time will tell. Hello everyone,
Now that the first two rounds of the playoffs are over, the title chase is really starting to heat up. We are at the Conference Finals. Only four teams remain, and after some wild series and some amazing basketball,and now there are two remaining teams in each conference facing off against each other to punch their ticket to the NBA finals and put their team in the history books forever. In the East, we have the #1-seeded Boston Celtics taking on the #6-seeded Indiana Pacers. The Celtics are playing like a team on a mission this postseason. Jayson Tatum has been phenomenal during the playoffs, filling any role that the team needs him to fill. He’s been an exceptional scorer, passer, rebounder, and defender in these playoffs. Jaylen Brown has also elevated his game to be more efficient and his defense has been great. The Pacers are led by Tyrese Haliburton, who is a good scorer and shooter, and is an exceptional passer, leading the lead in assists. They also have Pascal Siakam, who since coming over from the Raptors in a trade this season, has provided a scoring boost to the Pacers. This young Pacers team was not predicted to make it this far, but they kept overcoming adversity, and they have made it to the Conference Finals. In the West, the #3-seeded Minnesota Timberwolves take on the #5-seeded Dallas Mavericks. Minnesota is fresh off of knocking out the defending NBA champs, the Denver Nuggets, in the second round of the playoff with an amazing game 7 comeback . They are led by 22 year old Anthony Edwards, who has blossomed into a franchise cornerstone star this season. His confidence, swagger, and leadership combined with his scoring ability and his well-rounded game along with great team defense make the Timberwolves a threat in any game. He also has a great skilled big man in Karl-Anthony Towns and a lockdown paint defender in Rudy Gobert ,the defensive player of the year.The Mavericks are led by Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. Both are supremely skilled players who have great handles and can score at will. Both can get to the basket and score creatively, and both have great mid-range and three-point games. The Mavs also have a great group of depth players who play great in their role and are talented enough to take on more of a responsibility if needed. For these Conference Finals, try to predict the team that moves on to the Finals (and in how many games), who wins the Eastern and Western Conference Finals MVP, and who averages the most PPG in each series. Hi folks.......Way too often I start my posts here with an apology , mostly for it being so long between posts......I'm sorry for that ! (that is what Becca calls an "old dad joke"....sorry about that too)......I'll also apologize in advance for this likely being the longest post in Gilbert's history......I promise to try and make worthwhile.....hopefully for everyone......first of all, many of you know...and many of you don;t , I am coming off a month long crazy illness ; four plus weeks of one symptom....total exhaustion.....no idea of what it was ....tested negative for everything......but...I felt like Rip Van Winkle ( for those who don't know who that .is...sorry...again, I'm kind of old)......by the way, a little known piece of trivia ;Rip Van Winkle was a small part of the inspiration for "It's a Wonderful Life"....again, if you don't know that reference as well my younger friends......anyhow...the store has been closed for almost five weeks ...and just restarted appointments yesterday....as always , the love, support , warmth and friendship from you is such a gift to me and the Gilbert's family.......so.....let me give something NOT boring to read; April 21st is the 35th Anniversary of Gilbert's Sports Nostalgia......35 years!......18 in Needham and now 17 in Natick....just nuts!!!.......and I am so lucky to be able to do something I truly love for that long.......and you folks are such a part of that.....SO.....for all of 2024 (this post was meant to be done in January) everybody reading this, email folks..., Gorilla Club members, ..long-time loyal customers and friends...are automatically getting a 10% "coupon (or better) for every time in the store......and.....we are lowering all our prices to be even more competitive and to make a great but sometimes expensive hobby a little less pricey......we will also be doing "trade appointments"...extended appointment hours, and "private appointments....more details to come on this soon.......backtracking a sec...a lot of folks have asked me when the appointments process might end...and some folks have not been thrilled with it......maybe I should have explained this better ; the appointments are only necessary because of the incredible support and growth our customers have gifted us with...it allowed me to be with my Mom and other family members in need during very tough times.....I miss the old days and the raffles and more...but.....if the store was to be open WITHOUT appointments it would simply be overcrowded in there all the time.......over the early part of this year I tested that out (with Becca's help)...we randomly let a midsize percentage of our customer base know that they could pop in with no appointment ; without even 30% of our "regulars" we have 20-24 people in the store...and nobody could even move in there.......it is such an amazing thing that your loyalty and friendships have created.....we are headed to 2500 Gorilla Club Members...and there is no end in sight...so.....maybe someday we can figure out a way to have simply "open" hours but in the ...meantime , I will try to make appointments that much more worthwhile in every way.......for Gorilla Club members , along with the 10% Gold "discount" , you will have a chance to play a game (the long forgotten but loved "Needham Game" ,where you can win a $100 every time in......plus the bonus prize from the "Tucker Box" as well........and..for everybody, I want to make the appointment situation something that I can make better and better for everybody......I even woukd love to hear suggestions from you folks.....so.....the NEXT TIME you are in and between 5 and 15 please ask me for a special gift.....I will forget , so the remembering is on you........same with the discounts by the way; again that "age " thing.......ok..if you're still with me , there's more........Amy and I finally finished Ted Lasso last night (if you have not watched it...watch)......and it made me very emotional in terms of what blessings i have had in my life and in particular the last 9 months.....so...here goes ; you have been with me since we had the break in/robbery over the summer..it was pretty bad.....and the loyalty, friendship and love , not just of you and my friends and family but of STRANGERS , made that episode so much easier and so much a weird mixed blessing , I'll never forget it......and then we had some awful family illness , culminating with the loss of my mom before the holidays ; my mother was my hero , my inspiration and role model.......it was tough....and again, you and those in my life made it not only so much easier but so much full of friendship , warmth , comfort and love that it became such a mixed blessing again......many of those who met her and knew of my relationship with her and my love for her , have not stopped checking in on me.......obviously it has not left me speechless but it has left me overwhelmed....and so grateful.......at age 65 , in no small part because of you ....and the ridiculous amount of blessings my life ...I has been full of.....I am happier than I have ever been......and it has made me want to share something kind of "deep " with you.......I have not been happy all my life...my childhood was not perfect.....as a kid , I often thought life was not fair.....and it surely did not always make sense......and as life ent on, things certainly got better...and then much much better...but...life was still not always easy.....one thing I did not know was an awful lot of people felt the same way...it was not something always talked about a lot in the first half of my life.......but...now I kind of have realized something; the Ted Lasso finale really made me think of this ...life is kind of like a jigsaw puzzle ; what is IS gets clearer the longer you do the puzzle...thing make more sense...and hopefully that helps make life that much better.......you folks therefore have kind of been like "jigsaw puzzle "pieces in my life......one other reason I kind of wanted to share that now was because today was one of the greatest days of my life; as some of you might have heard or figured out , I'm kind of a big "fan" of my daughter Becca....for many reasons but in large part because of how much she taught me in regard to all the stuff I just wrote ; she is my biggest "jigsaw puzzle piece"......I have been blessed with the 3 most amazing women I've ever known in my life being my Mom, my wife and my daughter.......and today the youngest , Becca, made her public singing debut.....and she is now not just our "rock star" but a ROCKSTAR.....I am not posting it hear ....I feel bad enough about the length of this already...but.....anybody that wants to hear and see her "moment" , I'd love to share.......we are kind of freaking out (oh and Becca wants me to once again highly recommend "Bluey" for ALL ages ...and her parents are 100% on board there as well........ok.......one last fun thing for those kind enough to read this far; .....Hi folks.......I have a difficult bit of news to fill you in on; today the store was broken into....between midnight and noon we think......the glass front door shattered and the back window shattered when the front inside door didn't give.....so....lots and lots of damage and glass everywhere....and sadly, a TON of inventory stolen........the police were great and we already have some leads into who did this......but...it was a first in 34 years ...and pretty disturbing......and we will be closed a bit while we clean up and restock inventory a bit......we've already had a ton of kind thoughts and wishes and that is very much appreciated.....we are offering a $200 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction.......as always thanks for the support , friendship and loyalty....and we'll be back better than ever soon.......thanks.......Gary and Becca

In the West, the Los Angeles Lakers, led by all time scoring champion LeBron James and his superstar teammate Anthony Davis take on the back-to-back MVP (and Gary's guy) Nikola Jokic. In the East, the Celtics, led by their All-NBA duo of Jayson Tatum (who is coming off a Game 7 record 51 points) and Jaylen Brown (who has been fantastic as well) take on the Miami Heat, led by Jimmy Butler, whose playoff greatness cis undeniable. Try to predict the winners of both of these series, and how many games each series will take, and who will have the highest scoring game in the series, as well as how many points it will be. The NBA Playoffs are officially in full swing with some great second round match-ups. The brightest stars in the league are trying to lead their teams to an NBA championship in what should be an extremely exciting rest of the postseason. In the East, the Celtics, led by their superstar duo of Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum have a tough matchup against a good 76ers team led by this season’s MVP Joel Embiid, as well as former MVP James Harden. Also in the East, the Knicks, led by stars Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle, are taking on a tough Miami Heat team led by Jimmy Butler, who always seems to raise his game in the Playoffs. In the West, LeBron James and his Lakers are facing Steph Curry and the Warriors in an exciting series. Finally, the Denver Nuggets and two-time MVP Nikola Jokic (Gary's favorite)are taking on a Phoenix Suns team with two superstars in Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. Try and predict the winners of and and all the games in the this round of the playoffs, Additionally, try to predict who will have the highest scoring game of the second round, (from 5/9 on) and how many points it will be. With March Madness now winding down, the games are getting extremely intense. The final four teams remaining are #9 Florida Atlantic, who are taking on #5 San Diego State, and #5 Miami (FL) who are matched up against #4 UConn. This is the first final four without a top 3 seed, which just goes to show how unpredictable and fun the tournament has been this year! Try and predict the winners of the last 3 games for big prizes. With the NBA regular season also ending soon, the Celtics are trying to earn the number one seed in the East in what is a tight race that should lead to an extremely entertaining playoffs. Try to predict the leading scorers for the Celtics’ next three games for prizes as well! Finally, the NHL regular season is also ending soon, with the Bruins finishing up a historical regular season. We are officially at that fun time of year of one of the greatest tournaments in sports: March Madness! And it has been CRAZY so far.There are so many great teams in the field this year, and any team can win this extremely unpredictable and entertaining tournament. With March Madness, there are now some new challenges for this week. Try and predict the Elite Eight, Final Four, the championship teams, and the champion. Good luck! Even the experts have trouble predicting this stuff! And for our pro fans, try and predict the Celtics’ leading scorer for their next three games, as well as the Bruins’ next three scorers. Both teams are trying to get some momentum heading into the playoffs! The Bruins are trying to keep their dominant , record -breaking season going.Speaking of the Celtics and Bruins, the MIAA Division 1 High School Hockey Championship took place this Sunday between Pope Francis and Xaverian at TD Garden this past Sunday. There are a lot of exciting events all weekend, and there are some prediction contests coming with them! First, predict the winner of the Dunk Contest, which has been won by legends like Michael Jordan and Dominique Wilkins.The names are not quite as legendary these days. The contestants are Kenyon Martin Jr., Jericho Sims, Mac McClung, Trey Murphy III. Also, try to predict the winner of the three-point contest, with previous winners including Stephen Curry and Larry Bord. This year’s three point contest features the Celtics’ own Jayson Tatum, as well as Damian Lillard, Julius Randle, Buddy Hield, Tyrese Halliburton, Tyler Herro, Lauri Markkanen, and Kevin Huerter. Additionally, try to predict the team that wins the All Star Game (Team Giannis or Team LeBron), and the All-Star Game MVP. Now, with only four teams remaining in the NFL Playoffs, we are at the Conference Championships, with the teams playing for a trip to Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. The NFC Championship has the red-hot San Francisco 49ers with rookie QB Brock Purdy going to Philly to play the Eagles, who have been dominant all year, led by MVP candidate Jalen Hurts. For the AFC Championship, the Bengals with their stacked weapons on offense and MVP finalist Joe Burrow, go to Arrowhead Stadium to play the Chiefs, who are led by another superstar QB (and yet another MVP candidate) Patrick Mahomes. It should be a very exciting day of football! With these games, there are some contests. Try to predict the winning teams, receiver with the most receiving yards, the running back with the most rushing yards, and the QB who throws for the most touchdowns.
