Happy Labor Day! Thank you to all our team members, we appreciate your hard work and dedication!
A look back at our outdoor concert last weekend. The Royalaires Big Band delivered a great performance at the Unity Green concert venue at our Heritage Village campus. It was the perfect summer evening - warm temperatures, blue skies, , and a first class performance!
Today is National Beach Day, and in honor of this special day, residents enjoyed a Jersey Shore Beach-themed dinner in the Rose Inn Restaurant. The special menu included Blue Fish and Spring Onion Cake, Jersey Tomato Salad, Blueberry Spinach Salad, Jersey Corn on the Cobb with Rosemary Sea Salt New Potatoes. And you can't celebrate the Jersey Shore without including boardwalk treats, Homemade Fudge and Salt Water Taffy, for dessert!
Our Morningstar Living Woodworkers have been busy! The Community Fun & Engagement team engaged the talents of the woodworkers to make wooden trays. These trays will be used for an upcoming resident art class. The unfinished surface of the wood will be the canvas for residents to create a beautiful addition to their home! We can't wait to share the finished results.
We are excited to welcome back Kathleen Conn, PennState Extension's Master Watershed Steward who will discuss the properties and power of the substance that covers approximately 3/4 of our earth...water. From the composition of tears (and their effects!) to the tidal forces around the globe, water is truly amazing, influencing our lives in so many different ways. Register to attend at https://morningstareventfull.corsizio.com/
Our residents' Adventure Club enjoyed an afternoon at Galena Lake at Peace Valley Park near Doylestown. This beautiful 1,500 acre wildlife preserve is the perfect place to connect with nature on land or on the water. Our adventurers took to kayaks and paddle boats for a relaxing afternoon with friends.
Today's Memory Cafe was a lot of fun! Participants enjoyed a program brought to us by the Allentown Art Museum. Educator Margie Makowski from ArtCan demonstrated an unusual technique for creating striking artwork using a common household item. Once paint was applied to the paper, Margie used a window squeegee to spread and blend the paint. This technique resulted in a beautiful abstract piece. Our guests had fun creating their very own masterpieces!
In addition to the art project, participants also benefited from some guided exercise, and enjoyed a delicious 'peachy' dessert in honor of August being National Peach Month!
The Morningstar Memory Cafe offers a welcoming environment for people with dementia and their care partners to gather for fun, socialization and refreshments. It is held at Advent Moravian Church in Bethlehem on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month. If you, or someone you know, would benefit from attending, call 610.258.0700 to learn more.
We enjoyed a fascinating insight into the Allentown Symphony today. Diane Wittry, A*O Conductor and Musical Director, presented our EventFULL Living seminar, sharing what it takes to program an entire season. From selecting the composers and music, ensuring balance across the season, interviewing musicians, and planning practices...and that is before the concert even begins! Our participants now have an even higher appreciation of this beautiful community resource. Diane was surprised when she saw that a former trumpeter with A*O now lives at Moravian Hall Square! Mrs Egge played in the orchestra for 51 years, and Diane recognized her instantly even though she had not seen her for 22 years - a special meeting of old friends.
Our Fall Semester of LIFE non-credit classes is here! We invite you to join us at the Cooper Center at our Heritage Village campus to enjoy this lifelong learning opportunity. This semester we offer a selection of topics under Art, Finance, Health, History and Music.
The first class is on Tuesday, August 27th - The Life and Music of Johnny Mercer: Lyricist of the American Songbook, presented by Robert Batemarco, devotee of the American Songbook since the 1970s. Today is World Honey Bee Day! Our beekeepers continue to be busy taking care of the apiary at our Heritage Village campus. Following the bumper harvest of honey in July, they harvested cut-comb honey. Did you know the honey in the comb can be even more beneficial than raw honey? It contains about 12% less water than liquid honey and is sealed in the wax cells of the honeycomb along with vitamins, enzymes, pollen, and antioxidants. Say 'thank you' to these beautiful bees by planting a pollinating plant in your garden!
Moravian Hall Square residents and staff recently enjoyed a bus ride to Diner 248 in Easton for lunch. Who doesn't love diner food? It was a fun afternoon enjoying good food with friends.

We have some talented artists among our residents and are fortunate to have some beautiful examples of hibiscus growing at Moravian Hall Square!
Our Culinary Team recently held a Skills Fair for their team members. It was a full house in Kortz Hall when the Musical Arts Chorus performed last week. Thank you to the Chorus for sharing your talent and passion for singing with our residents. It was a wonderful evening for all.
Residents recently enjoyed a trip up to Blue Mountain and lunch at the Slopeside Grill. It was the perfect way to spend a summer afternoon with friends. Resident Sal treated us to a rendition of O Sole Mio on the patio. It was a fun day.
Christine Applegate from the Museum of Indian Culture delivered a fascinating presentation this week as part of our EventFULL Living series. Chris focused on the People of the Northeastern Woodlands, the Lenape, before and after the arrival of the European colonists. She had examples of food, clothing, tools, furs, and trade goods. Thank you, Chris, for taking us on this journey to learn more about the people who first inhabited this area of Pennsylvania. Residents enjoyed a fun trip down Memory Lane to Hess's! Bonnie Lee, one of the models used in Hess's newspaper ads, presented the seminar. Coincidentally, one of our Morningstar Living bus drivers, Linda, did many of the sketches for the newspaper ads. Residents shared some of their own memories, including Joan F., who showed her wedding photo, complete with her gown from Hess's. It was a fun day reminiscing, including a Hess's-themed lunch menu with strawberry pie. Delicious.
