Erika is a multi media artist based in Nevada City, California.
She creates stunning works of art ranging from expressive and colorful abstract paintings, to highly realistic, captivating, black and white portraits.
I shipped off this original painting last month, but not before I gave it a proper send off & selfie sesh.
There are prints in my shop - this one is called Prism! What does it make you think of?
Story time! Swipe to read.
These pieces feel like what I feel like inside now: bursting with color, with creativity, with boundless energy, shapes, and squiggles from every pore.
What about you? Are you living authentically, or just existing?
HI, I’m here! I am so overwhelmed I have the worst time posting on this account, and I don’t want to - I love it here? Why can’t I share my art? Can you relate? Is it the adhd?? Is it the fact that I’ve been sick for ten days and counting?? Can anyone relate???
“I found Erika’s art through Instagram and was inspired to buy a portrait of my first cat, Spider. I mean, look at this work.. how could you go wrong? I sent my favorite picture of him, and she captured his essence perfectly: the alert and curious eyes, round face, and upturned head. We shilled out for fancy framing on this one because it sparks joy like no other art in our house.
I find myself intimidated by the printing and framing process, but Erika talked me through some options and recommended what had worked for her. I appreciate that extra step of customer service, and it helped me overcome that hump of buying art but taking forever to hang it.
More recently, I was charged with putting together a care package for a friend who had lost their beloved cat. It hit me that she would appreciate a pet portrait over the sweet treats we were considering. I reached out to Erika, and, noting the sensitive timing around the abrupt loss of a pet, was able to very quickly turn the project around and even give a couple of options to select from. She truly went above and beyond for this one. Working with her as a customer shows that she has a huge heart for animals and gives her best to these portraits. “
Thank you for letting me capture Spider!!
Hunter and I went to the Nevada City Art Walk this evening! We moved here last fall and I am so excited to be part of such a rad community of artists and creative folks ❤️❤️

GUAVA is from my series of brightly colored 5x7 abstracts. It’s one of my favorites - it effortlessly complements all the other paintings, the colors are vibrant yet harmonious, and the expanses of solid colors have movement and interest as you look closer.
I love color. You can transform a space, an outfit, a MOOD with the right colors and palettes. So for this series, I worked with fully saturated hues in pinks, greens, oranges, teals and blues, adding whites and blacks to ground them just a little bit.
The result is a series of ten pieces that feel very ME. Small with a big impact, bursting with excitement at all times, and unexpectedly playful. If you know me, I mean… sounds like me, right? 😂😂
For art that I collect and hang in my studio for inspiration, I’m always drawn to women surrounded by plants and animals. Very me as well. But the art I create is the most authentic version of me in ways that I don’t intend when I start, and that part is always a joy to discover when I step back and step out of the intimate creating and painting phase to see the end result.
What kind if art feels like YOU? Either art that you create, or art that you make yourself??
ARCHIPELAGO is the first watercolor I painted in my “Atlas Chromatika” series. The defining piece that set the tone for what was to come.
I knew I wanted to work with watercolors, and I knew I wanted to work with fully saturated, vivid hues, and incorporate negative space.
I also wanted to challenge myself to plan less and go with the flow - an ESSENTIAL skill to working with watercolors and painting abstracts, and a skill I am still developing.
I absolutely love how this one turned out, and it became my reference that I taped up in my studio above my workspace as I created the others. I painted about 30 or 40 pieces before I curated it down to the ones I decided were the most harmonious together. The best combinations of colors, the best flow, and the ones that moved me the most.
To me, this feels like a map of a fantasy land. A place I want to explore, that I could get lost in and let my imagination run wild exploring it.
What does it make you feel? Do you see it as a map, or something else??
It’s about time I introduce myself! I’m Erika, I’m a multi media artist living in Nevada City, California.
Here I am in my studio with a new collection of paintings I’m working on!
I’ve been an artist all my life. I was always the kid choosing indoor recess to hang out in the art classroom, begging to take painting classes at the rec center, splitting my allowance between the craft store and candy 😂
Even when I’m not painting or drawing, art has been a focus in my life.
As a teenager I danced ballet pre-professionally. I went to pastry school to learn how to make food into art. I had an Etsy store creating cross stitches and embroideries for 7 years or so. I got a job at a cute little boutique and made beautiful displays and learned to make flower arrangements.
Art is everywhere in my life, and having the space & resources to make it the main focus at this stage in my life is a privilege I do not take for granted 🥹
So now you know about ME…. What about YOU?
Where are you from? What kind of art do you enjoy, either observing or making? How did you come across my page? I wanna know, say hi, let’s chat!!!
Drawing people’s best friends - those relationships of unconditional love that stay by our side during career changes, love life ups and downs, new family members, cross country moves - gives my art purpose and meaning.
A piece of myself, of my life long compassion for animals, a piece of my spirit and light and joy, that I could give to others to make their day, their lives, just a little bit better.
