Good advice Clint

Partner: ‘How old are you, Clint?’
Clint: ‘I turn 91 on Monday.’
Partner: ‘What are you going to do?’
Clint: ‘I am going to start a new movie.’
Partner: ‘What keeps you going?’
Clint: ‘I get up every day and don’t let the old man in.”

I had to redefine “artist” for myself.
For me, an artist is anyone who doesn’t fit or feel all the way comfortable with a preconceived label about who they are or what they are doing. Artists make things any way they want. Artists need no reason, specific education, permission, license, or even a plan of what they are going to do. To be an artist is to be part of a tribe of people who are bound by the wonderfully delicious, spacious, open idea that anything is possible. Artist is not a label. It is just the magic word that grants you tremendous freedom and possibility.

This little 8x8” canvas is what is called a throwaway … it sits next to a painting or series of paintings in process… when a brush needs to be cleaned, or there is paint left over at the end of the day it goes on the throwaway… this throwaway began as a collaged piece then paint was pressed onto it from my palette … often the throwaways end up being pretty exciting works in of themselves or a great place to begin another painting. not sure if this one is finished… maybe a little more red in the lower right hand corner? Or continue to play with it… I’m interested in all the movement and color at this point… turning the whole piece to the left works… see below in the comments
