"In 1995, I entered my first detox at High Point in Plymouth. Of all my years in and out of treatment, High Point never turned me away. When I’d find myself back in treatment, High Point would always welcome me back with support and gratitude that I was still safe. My recovery journey started here. Today, I am a person in long term recovery – going on 17 years to be exact.

In 2006, I entered the salvation Army program and spent 6 months of my life working on myself. After graduating the program, I was offered a position at the Salvation Army which I remained employed for a few years. Then in 2009, I got a job as a Community Support Program (CSP) worker for High Point. I was in this role for about six years and I was the face of the CSP program at this point. I witnessed managers come and go and wanted a chance to become one. One day I had the opportunity to meet with Daniel and I slid my resume across the table his way. He shared that there were education requirements that were needed and I did not have at that time. This encounter was the motivation for me to go back to school and get my Bachelor's Degree in Human Services and my Master's degree in Organizational Management and Leadership.

I tried to leave my job at High Point twice and have been pulled back twice by the opportunities offered. People try to leave High Point for whatever reason and we find ourselves always coming back like Millie Scott mentions often. For me it's been about the family like feel. The support I get is ridiculous- I’m very supported and it’s always felt like home. High Point is a place where you can be yourself and grow. They offer opportunity to individuals like us (people in recovery) which makes me feel more valued.

In 2015, I had my first introduction to management when I was the Program Director for TSS in New Bedford. I was later asked to be the Clinical Director for MATC CSS1, but was only there for about 6 months before I returned to CSP as the Clinical Director. For the past 3+ years, I have been the Program Director for Community Based Recovery Support (CBRS).

Every time I left High Point, I came back because there were opportunities for growth and the opportunity for professional development. Each role has allowed me to improve. CBRS is my whole life really- I’m community-based material.

I will always be grateful for High Point and the opportunities over the years. To those in recovery: if I can grow in my professional development the way I have over the years, anyone can as long as they are willing to do the work'."
