Spring has such a beautiful meaning! To me it symbolizes bringing life back into what used to be and what will be again. It’s a time to think lighter and feel lighter after a long period of cold, dark and gray. Watching the slow and precise revitalization of our outside world during spring gives me energy and really, really, really bad spring fever.

And then, before we know it, we’re shoulder deep in lush, dense, vivacious greenery with hardly an inch of the outside world going untouched by nature's beauty. This is why it’s the perfect time to introduce a new professional product and home care product we're now offering at Citrine. This new product is one of a kind and like nothing you’ve ever used before. It's not just an ingredient created to be a buzz word in the skin care industry like so many that have come and gone in the past. No, this technology is here to stay. For all of my skin nerds out there,( and I know there’s a lot of you in this spa family,) you’re going to love this one!
They’re called Exosomes and they’re changing the way skin works, one cell at a time.

What is an Exosome anyway?

Here you go nerds… (And just to let you know, a large portion of the following information was provided and taken from exosome education Kate and I took with a company we’ve partnered with, called Glow by Tatum.) An exosome is a membrane bound extra cellular vesicle (aka tiny bubbles released from stem cells) that contains a lipid bilayer of various proteins that encapsulate bioactive cargo, i.e., cellular information such as proteins, lipids, growth factors, cytokines, and nucleic acids including Mrna’s.

Believe it or not, Exosomes are ethically harvested from consenting donors of sterilized human umbilical cord stem cells. They are unique because they act as both repair mechanisms and building blocks for the body. They are incredible powerful elements that can restore cells with new information that has been lost over the years due to the natural cell reproduction process and aging, enhancing cell-to-cell communication, essential for cellular health. When compared to adult growth factors, exosomes from umbilical cords contain nearly three times the growth factors! And more growth factors means more results. Exosome therapy improves communication channels between cells to stimulate and support the body's healing process by providing additional information to younger cells, revitalizing skin from the inside out. They carry information through the body to various cells to create communication pathways and deliver their cargo to recipient cells.
So in a nutshell, exosomes are the byproduct of cells, created when two cells merge together. Exosomes are regenerative and anti-inflammatory and help with wound healing. Because of this, some inflammatory responses in skin such as rosacea and eczema are also improved. Exosomes are messengers that re-educate your cells to do things they used to do when they were younger. They help to create collagen and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. Incredibly, exosomes decrease senescent cells, which are basically zombie cells, not actively reproducing but not quite dead either. Senescent cells can still be prone to inflammation and toxins and associated with chronic inflammation, so having less of these zombie cells is a very good thing.

I wanted to share my personal journey with you all! I’ve struggled with congested and textured skin, along with redness, irritation, and an uneven skin tone my entire adult life. It’d come in waves.. one year it’d be thriving, the next it’d breakout every day. One month it’d be red and itchy, the next, calm and glowing. As a matter a fact, my personal skin insecurities is what drove me to become an Esthetician. Not only to learn how to improve my skin, but to empower and educate others with theirs.

There are so many factors that can contribute to unhappy, unhealthy skin. For me, this included; genetics, overstimulation, improper skincare routine, poor diet, hormones, and inconsistency. Now, what I’ve learned throughout the years is that:
1) your skin does not define who you are as a person
2) A healthy lifestyle can present itself in many positive ways (clearer skin being one of them)
3) Less is more
4) CONSISTENCY is the key to success (for your skin and just about everything else in life)
