As temperatures rise, so do the snakes! 🐍
Make sure you are keeping an eye out for these guys and leaving them plenty of space to do their snake thing!
Two types of snakes here- Copperhead and Cottonmouth. Both venomous, both pit vipers, and both residing in North Carolina.
Let's talk about some of their differences…
Copperheads are often discovered in rocky, wooded, and arid terrains, all over North Carolina, and are characterized by their copper-toned skin. In contrast, Cottonmouths, also referred to as Water Moccasins, occupy the eastern region of North Carolina. They flourish in warm and damp habitats like swamps, marshes, rivers, and lakes. Cottonmouths possess a darker appearance and are recognized for their swimming skills. It's worth mentioning that the venom of Cottonmouths is notably more potent than that of Copperheads.
These snakes are not aggressive unless provoked. Your safety lies in being cautious and respectful of these creatures and their habitats.
