🏊🏻‍♀️ Presentation and direction from City Council for a Feasibility Study regarding a possible future Recreation Center, Natatorium, and/or an Outdoor Pool;

🚛 Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an amended and restated five year exclusive franchise agreement with Waste Connections Lone Star Inc. for residential solid waste collection services;

🌳 Public Hearing and Resolution to consider a General Land Use Plan (GLUP) for a property located at 102 Lenz Dr.

It’s time to make a serious investment in the recreational needs in our community

I want to make sure I provide a heads up about this. The Seguin City Council on Tuesday is scheduled to discuss the creation of a feasibility study for the creation of a recreation center, a discussions and/or an outdoor swimming pool. This is something that I've talked about for years, and I want to be clear -- all of these things need to be done as part of one big community recreation bond project. It's been more than ten years since the city had a big bond issue (Seguin '13), which led to the construction of the new library and Park West. It's time again for the city to make an investment in the community with a rec center, that benefits "EVERYONE." This is the kind of quality of life project that's been sorely needed in Seguin for a very, very long time. The rec center needs to include an indoor pool (natatorium), a large outdoor pool, and lots of other spaces for recreational uses. Hopefully, this proposed feasibility study can also identify some additional features for this project. The study should also look at partnerships between the city, TLU, Seguin ISD and Navarro ISD. Those partnerships might just be in the form of usage agreements, but these discussions need to be held now. Potentially, there are programs and services, including swim teams, that could utilize this public facility. It's important that this process get started now, and that no shortcuts be taken. Develop the study, put together a plan, take it to voters, and let's get started ASAP. Do not try to do this piecemeal. It's too important to try to take shortcuts. So, the city council and staff need to make a commitment to do this right. It requires a real vision and a real strategy to get it done sooner, rather than later. We deserve nice things. The Seguin City Council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Seguin City Hall.
