"Women are just simply amazing. We’re industrious, resilient, caring and even when systems are designed to keep us down, we figure out a way to rise above them.
Imagine what we could do if the decks were stacked for us, that’s the message we should all be sharing when we talk about policies that support women.”
—Emily Byrne, Connecticut Voices for Children, panelist at our Disrupting Gender Inequity event in November
The live event was recorded for the Connecticut Public podcast Disrupted, hosted by Dr. Khalilah L. Brown-Dean.

Promoting the social and economic advancement of women & girls, forever
In 1995, about 100 women and a sprinkling of caring men banded together to change the world as we know it locally. Together, they invested $59,349 of their own money to create a new, permanently-endowed fund. This fund is our region’s ONLY endowment focused on improving the economic and social odds for women and girls. Our Goal: To improve things for women and girls in Greater New Haven by growing women’s influence through philanthropy. The Fund is governed by an Advisory Committee of a diverse group of women and achieves its goals through information, education, and advocacy. The Fund has distributed over one million dollars since inception to achieve its purpose.
