First FDA-Approved Postpartum Pill Offers Hope for Women
Every year, more than 400,000 women are diagnosed with #postpartumdepression (PPD). Kristina Deligiannidis, MD, a principal investigator at The Feinstein Institute for Medical Research, is leading the way in developing treatments to give women hope after childbirth. Her clinical research recently led to the first FDA-approved oral medication for PPD, changing the lives of many women, babies, and their families. “He spent his whole life in the NICU”💙 On March 3, 2021, proud parents and Northwell Health employees, Eric Zorrilla and Stephanie Tineo, welcomed their baby boy, Ryan, into the world. But Ryan faced challenges from the start. As he struggled to breathe on his own, he was immediately taken from his mother’s arms to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Cohen Children's Medical Center. The next days were the longest - and shortest - days of Eric and Stephanie’s lives. Unfortunately, little Ryan passed away on April 9, 2021 - he lived only 37 days. His entire life was spent in the NICU, surrounded by the love of his parents and the dedicated medical team who became his extended family. In loving memory of Ryan, Eric and Stephanie formed Team Lion Strong and joined the #northwellhealthwalk to honor Ryan’s legacy and ensure that other families receive the same compassionate care they experienced during their hardest moments. Dancing with a new heartbeat: Frankie England's Story
Nearly three years ago, local dance teacher Frankie England became the youngest person to receive a #hearttransplant on #longisland at the Sandra Atlas Bass Heart Hospital (Northwell Cardiovascular Institute). To celebrate a second chance at life, Frankie returned to North Shore University Hospital and danced in front of what has now become the Petrocelli Surgical Pavilion. Seacrest Studios comes to Cohen Children's Medical Center

This state-of-the-art broadcast media center is the 13th of its kind in the nation and the first in New York State. Baby Michael's Story
Six months into her pregnancy, Mariel Prior went into early labor and delivered her baby at Katz Women's Hospital at North Shore University Hospital (NSUH). Baby Michael, born with many health challenges, was immediately transferred to the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). When she needed support, Richelle Modestil experienced what kindhearted care feels like and found hope as a patient at Northwell Health. One night, as he was getting ready for bed, William Spence began experiencing severe chest pains. He came to South Shore University Hospital's Bohlsen Family Emergency Department, where he was diagnosed with an enlarged aorta and underwent emergency surgery to repair his heart. Saving Officer Sproston
In March 2020, Riverhead Police Officer Robert Sproston was in a horrific car accident that left him impaled by a metal pole and gasping for air. As Rob struggled to stay alive, he was rushed to Peconic Bay Medical Center - Northwell Health (PBMC) where Dr. Lincoln Cox, chair of Emergency Medicine at PBMC, performed an extremely challenging procedure to save his life. Thanks to donor support, the expansion of the Poole Family Trauma and Emergency Center will make it possible for patients like Rob to get back to doing what he loves – serving his community. #gratefulpatient #philanthropy #supportNorthwell #gratitude

Domingo Zapata x Northwell Health Behavioral Health Initiative
Earlier this year, Northwell Health partnered with famed artist Domingo Zapata to leverage the healing power of art to raise young voices and address the crisis in behavioral health exacerbated by COVID-19.
