Next up for our senior spotlight: Grace Nilsson!
"This is my second year in the Thames Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra. As a homeschooler, I especially appreciate the opportunity to be part of a musical ensemble rather than only taking private lessons on my own. I believe that being surrounded by other motivated musicians and required to learn challenging pieces has pushed me to become a better flute player than I would have been otherwise. This fall I will be attending Carroll College, which is a small liberal arts school in Helena, Montana."
Grace will be studying Environmental Science and plans to continue playing the flute in college.
Come see Grace play with the Thames Valley Youth Symphony TODAY at 5pm on the Connecticut College campus!

Happy Friday! We are excited to spotlight our next senior: Maya Hollenbeck!
"I have been playing the cello for 10 years and this is my third year being in Thames Valley Youth symphony, I love being surrounded by other talented musicians who are driven and motivated to play and create music. Through Thames I was able to push myself and it has inspired me to pursue playing cello in college. Playing in this orchestra has allowed me to maximize my potential and helped me to see what I was capable of. I will be attending The Hartt School in the fall with a double major in music education and cello performance."
We wish Maya all the best, and hope you will come to see her and the rest of the TVYS perform their final concert this Sunday at 5:00pm on the Conn College campus.
The program will feature the works of Mozart, Jules Massenet, Edward Elgar and Nino Rota.

For Thursday's senior spotlight, we have the wonderful Amelia Allen!
"This is my first year playing oboe in the Thames Valley Youth Symphony. My first instrument was alto saxophone, and I have played it since fourth grade. I started learning oboe last spring, and I was excited to finally play with an orchestra after being a jazz saxophonist at school for so many years. It has been wonderful to play such beautiful music, especially Beethoven and Mozart. I will be attending the University of Connecticut and majoring in mechanical engineering. I hope to continue playing oboe with their orchestra."
Don't miss Amelia with the Thames Valley Youth Symphony this Sunday at 5pm in Evans Hall on the Conn College campus!

For our mid-week senior spotlight: Eric Johnson!
"This is my 7th year being in the Thames Valley Youth Symphony. This group has provided me with challenging music that has allowed me to progress my cello playing. I will be attending Three Rivers in the fall in pursuit of an electrical engineering degree."
Eric will be a cellist with the Thames Valley Youth Symphony at their spring concert, this Sunday at 5:00pm in Evans Hall on the Connecticut College campus! Don't miss your chance to see him one last time with TVMS!

For today's senior spotlight, we are excited to feature Immajin Santerre!
"This is my fifth semester playing with the Thames Valley Youth Symphony, and fourth year with Thames Valley Music School. I am incredibly grateful that I have had this opportunity. Since I don't have an orchestra program at my high school, this program has given me the opportunity to keep up with my playing, while also having a level of difficulty that keeps me engaged. I have been playing the viola for eight years, and though I don't plan to pursue it as a career, I do plan to keep playing it after high school. I plan on attending Quinebaug Valley Community College, and then transferring to get my BFA in musical theatre or acting."
We're excited to see Immajin and the entire Thames Valley Youth Symphony close out the semester with their spring concert this Sunday, May 7 at 5pm!

Up next for our senior spotlight: Jason Jiao!
"This is my fourth year in the Thames Valley Youth Symphony. I'm grateful for the opportunity to work alongside such talented conductors and musicians. I've been playing violin for almost ten years now and I really can't wait to keep playing music in college where I'll hopefully be able to keep doing symphony orchestra. I will be attending Dartmouth College and will be majoring in biological sciences."
Come see Jason perform with the Thames Valley Youth Symphony THIS Sunday at 5pm in Evans Hall, Connecticut College.

Up next for the senior spotlight: Phoebe Lampos!
"I've played oboe for five years, and have been with the Thames Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra for the past three years. I've really appreciated the variety and quality of pieces we were able to perform at Evans Hall, and also during the pandemic when so much else was closed, and we practiced outdoors. I will be attending Gettysburg College / Sunderman Conservatory of Music, with a double major in Music and Public Policy (Pre-Law Track)."
We wish Phoebe all of the best as she moves forward in her musical journey. Don't miss her and the entire Thames Valley Youth Symphony on May 7th for their 2023 Spring Concert!

Up first for our 2023 senior spotlight: Luke Bartlett!
"I have been playing the viola since third grade, and have been participating in the Thames Valley Youth Symphony since I was a freshman. I enjoy being able to perform such high level music with the rest of my peers, and the youth symphony has helped me develop and refine my musical abilities. I have many fond memories of sitting in the back of the viola section as a freshman, listening in awe to the astounding music around me. This fall, I will be attending Liberty University and will be studying mechanical engineering."
Don't miss your chance to see Luke and the rest of the amazing Thames Valley Youth Symphony on May 7th for their Spring Concert in Evans Hall on the Connecticut College campus. Concert starts at 5pm.
It feels like summer already, doesn't it? We are so excited to offer some fantastic programs this year, and we want you to be a part of them.

TVMS welcomes Renée McGee to the family!
Renée McGee’s trumpet has brought her all over North America in the past few years as she has built a diverse musical career as a versatile trumpet player, bandleader, entertainer, recording artist, and pedagogue. A native of Stafford, Virginia, Renee earned her Master’s of Music in Jazz Studies at the University of North Texas, where she directed the Five O’Clock Lab Band and became the first woman ever to play lead trumpet in the 7-time Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band.
Renée is currently based in southeastern Connecticut, where she plays lead and section trumpet with the U.S. Coast Guard Band. Prior to joining the Coast Guard, she completed a residency with the U.S. Airmen of Note, and was endorsed by the S.E. Shires Company as a performing artist. Renée is looking forward to curating a studio of motivated and curious trumpet students in Connecticut over the coming years.

As the spring season sets in, our students are putting together some fantastic music. Don't miss the TVMS Youth Symphony Concert on May 7th @ 5pm.
Stay tuned for more info on our summer programs starting this June!
