Central Missionary Baptist Church
We are located in the Lower Ninth Ward area of New Orleans. Our service starts at 7 o’clock a. m. on
Central is open and welcoming all who come. Let’s just praise the Lord.
Happy 2021. This is a new year but the one thing that remains the same is worshipping God. Come and join Central M. B. C. as we start the new year in our 7 o’clock service with every praise to our God.
We went back in on 5/24/2020. We had a joyous time worshipping and praising God for protection and safety. We took the necessary precautions because of the virus. God has truly blessed Central and I thank Him everyday.

James Chapter 1
Bible Study
THEME:
1. God tests faith by trials
2. God does not test with evil
3. God tests faith by the Word, not by man’s words
The author of the book before us is James, the son of Joseph and Mary; James, the half-brother of Jesus. James was so convinced that his Brother was the Son of God that he went on to become a leader in the early church.
James is a very practical book which deals with the ethics of Christianity rather than with doctrine. James will really bear down on some practical issues, but the theme of faith is also seen throughout his entire epistle. The emphasis in James is on the works which are produced by faith. Not only was he related to the Living Word, but he was a man greatly given to the written Word.
GOD TESTS FAITH BY TRIALS
v. 1
• “James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ.”
• James was very straightforward, as we shall see, but was also known as a man of tremendous humility.
• He doesn’t pull rank, he doesn’t drop names
• he simply considers himself a servant
• he extends greetings to “The twelve tribes” is a reference to the Jewish people scattered throughout the world
v. 2
• “Count it all joy when ye fall into various trials.”
• what God will send or allow as a trial to strengthen our faith; Satan will seek to exploit to get us to sin
• what Satan throws our way as a temptation; God allows to be a trial.
• Satan wants to use the event to tear us down and wipe us out; God wants to use the same event to show us how faithful He is and how real He can be
• we see Satan trying to wipe Job out by afflicting him physically, causing him to lose his family, and ruining him financially.
• God was proving something else. God was showing how faithful He would be.
• amid what Satan meant for evil, God used it for good as He sustained Job all the way through and rewarded him ultimately
• When a trial comes your way, Satan will be there the same day to try to get you to do what Mrs. Job suggested her husband do—to curse God and die (Job 2:9).
• But God will be there as well, waiting to show you His strength in seeing you through.
v.v. 3-4
• seeing God’s faithfulness manifested in our situation, we’ll be made entire and complete. We’ll become mature
• Maturity only comes through testing. Faith is made pure only when fiery trials burn away the junk
v.v. 5-8
• If you lack wisdom, ask God in faith, and He will give it to you
v.v. 9-11
• the Philistines hassled the Jews continually
• In our day, we don’t fear Philistines
• finances bring us into as many trials and testing points
• wondering how to make ends meet.
• Whether individually, or as a church family corporately, finances have proven to be the Philistine that stomps and threatens us continually
• whether we’re worried about poverty or weighed down with riches, we can be free if we keep a heavenly perspective
v. 12
• Trials result not only in spiritual maturity but also in crowns eternally
• you may not think crowns are a big deal now, you will in heaven
• When you face trials and temptations, if you stay close to the Lord, you will hear Him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant,”
• you will receive the crown of life specifically reserved for those who don’t walk away from Him
v. 13
• understand this: God will allow a trial; Satan will come with a temptation.
• The trial may be financial; the temptation may be co***ne to escape the pressure.
• It’s not God who brings the co***ne your way or who tempts you with po*******hy
• God simply allows the trial to come
• The trial of our faith is to prove the faithfulness of God
v.v. 14-15
• Sin always brings forth death
• Sin will kill relationships, destroy happiness, ruin health.
• see Him on the Cross in agony and pain and blood. It was when Jesus became sin for us that He died, for sin always brings death.”
v. 16
• “Don’t make a mistake about this,” James says. Sin always results in death and tragedy.
• Paul would put it this way: Be not deceived. God is not mocked. Whatever a man sows, that shall he also reap (see Galatians 6:7)
v.v. 17-18
• The good gifts, the perfect things, and the cool stuff that come your way are solely because of God’s grace and kindness and benevolence
• there’s no room for us to take credit for anything we can perform or achieve. Everything that is wonderful in your life is because of God’s grace to you
• Not only is God good in the gifts He gives, but in who He is
• He’s not moody. He doesn’t have bad days. He’s not generous with me one day, but grouchy the next
• We’re unpredictable. We go up and down. God doesn’t. He can be nothing but good.
• He doesn’t react to me according to how I’m doing with Him.
• He is faithful when I am faithless (2 Timothy 2:13). He is good when I am grumpy. He doesn’t change. He’s locked into His nature.
• I can just enjoy Him without worrying about Him being ticked with me or tired of me. He gives nothing but good gifts, for He is a good God
v. 18
• James says, “Don’t forget that God is good
• what’s happening in you is going to work for good ultimately
• don’t be cynical; don’t be quick to complain about your situation
• stop speaking and start listening—and you’ll hear God’s voice in your trial
v. 20
• being ticked-off and hot under the collar doesn’t accomplish anything that proves to be right
v. 21
• “Let every man be swift to hear,” James instructed us in verse nineteen
• you can’t hear the Word of God because your ears are clogged up with “filthiness and indulgence of naughtiness”—plain old sin.
• If I’m filling my ears with the music and the scenes, gossip, and junk of the world, I can’t hear properly
• get rid of that stuff before you can really be tuned in to God’s frequency.
• You can’t hear the Word of the Lord because my mind is made up
• we are to receive the Word with meekness
• “Lord, I’m in this trial or temptation or difficulty, and I need direction from You. I need Your Word to direct me, or I’m not going to do well
• I come to You not with my own agenda or plan, but meekly. Whatever You say, that’s what I’ll do.”
• Many people don’t hear from the Lord when they read the Word of God because they lack a spirit of meekness before Him
v.v. 22-25
• perhaps we can’t hear from the Lord because we are mixed up
• many times, our tendency is to think that just because we’re reading the Word, we’re obeying it
• We deceive ourselves if, having seen what needs to be taken care of in the mirror of the Word, I then don’t do it.
• One of the great dangers for us who love the Word is to falsely assume that simply agreeing that we should pray means we’re praying; or knowing we should worship makes us worshipers
• James clearly warns us not to think that seeing our reflection properly means we’re doers of the Word automatically.
• If the Lord shows you in the Word that you need to praise Him, start praising Him right then
• If the Lord shows you in the Word that you need to get right with a brother, do it right then. Be a doer of the Word.
• reading the Word with meekness and then obeying it is the best hearing aid there is
v. 26
• A truly religious man, a deep man, does not pop off and throw temper tantrums at God. God is God, and we’re not. God is good, and we’re not. If there are problems in our lives, He’s not wrong. We are.
v. 27
• James cuts to the bottom line, he says that rather than being a matter of compromise and wordiness, true religion is a matter of purity and humility

Opposition From the Enemy”
Ezra 4:1–24
Hindrances to the Project (4:1–24): As the Jews rebuild the temple, their enemies try to hinder them in several ways.
A. Compromise (4:1–3): Some enemies of the Jews try to make them compromise their standards.
• Believers today must beware of those who claim to be Christians but whose actions clearly reveal they are using Christianity to serve their own interests.
• The important thing is to be right.
• The Bible must prevail for the child of God.
B. Coercion (4:4–5): Local residents try to discourage and frighten the Jews as they rebuild. They even bribe agents to work against the Jews.
• The opposition’s first weapon is discouragement
• Discouragement then led to fear
• Discouragement eats away at our motivation, and fear paralyzes us so we don’t act at all.
• By standing together with other believers, you can overcome fear and discouragement and complete God’s will.
C. Condemnation (4:6–24): The enemies write letters to King Xerxes and King Artaxerxes, accusing the Jews of being rebellious.
• The slander (4:6–13): The enemies warn King Artaxerxes that the Jews will revolt when the rebuilding is complete.
the tactic of the enemy is still to go through the records, find out where you failed, and make sure your failure is advertised
What he demands (4:21–24): He orders all work on the Temple and the city to be halted immediately.
a) When you have been brought to a standstill, remember to still stand strong in the Lord.
WHAT CAN WE LEARN FROM OPPOSITION?
1. OPPOSITION IS AN UNAVOIDABLE BY-PRODUCT OF OBEDIENCE TO GOD.
• Believers can expect opposition when they do God’s work (2 Timothy 3:12). Unbelievers and evil spiritual forces are always working against God and his people.
2. OPPOSITION IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SHOW STRENGTH OF CHARACTER.
• Jesus said he was sending his disciples out like “lambs among wolves.” They would have to be careful, because they would surely meet with opposition.
• Be alert, and remember to face your enemies, not with aggression, but with love and gentleness.
3. OPPOSITION SOMETIMES REVEALS PEOPLE’S FEAR OF CHANGE.
• Many people don’t want their lives exposed to God’s light because they are afraid of what will be revealed. They don’t want to be changed.
• Rather than giving in to discouragement, keep praying that they will come to see how much better it is to live in light than in darkness.
HOW SHOULD I RESPOND TO OPPOSITION OR PERSECUTION?
• When we experience opposition or persecution, our first response should be to draw near to God and ask him for his help.
• Following Jesus means that we, like him, might have to endure persecution without fighting back. (Isa. 53:7)
• God calls us to answer persecution by loving, blessing, and praying for those who oppose us. (1 Peter 3:9)
• God calls us to answer persecution by loving, blessing, and praying for those who oppose us. (1 Peter 4:19)
Good morning to all,
As we begin a new year at Central MBC we’re starting out with a vision. Our theme this year is “Rebuild, Restore, Renew”.
Rebuild our temple, Restore our members, and Renew our relationship with God.
We are beginning a project to fix up the church because this is God’s house and it deserves to look it’s best. Our members are now pledging toward our building fund to help us accomplish this task.
To all our former members keep us in pray, come by and visit with us to renew old acquaintances, and if God lays it on your heart contribute to our efforts.
We will be doing some programs this year to bring about fellowship with everyone and we want you to be apart of it. If you would like a copy of our calendar for 2020 you can email us at [email protected] or you can email me personally at

Four Essential Things for Christian Workers
2 Kings 4:10 (NKJV)
(Please, let us make a small upper room on the wall; and let us put a bed for him there, and a table and a chair and a lampstand; so it will be, whenever he comes to us, he can turn in there.")
"A bed, and a table, and a stool, and a candlestick" (2 Kings 4:10).
"Have you noticed that the four things which the Shunammite woman provided for the prophet Elisha are illustrative of the four things which the worker for Christ needs?" "The four things are a bed, a table, a stool, and a candlestick" (2 Kings 4:10).
1. The bed is the symbol of rest which is found in Christ, by coming to Him, and in being yoked in God's will with Him—Matt. 11:28, 29.
2. The table is the symbol of fellowship with Him, for He spreads a table before us in the presence of our enemies—Psa. 23:5, and bids us "come and dine" (John 21:12).
3. The stool is the symbol of instruction from Christ, for we must sit at His feet, and learn of Him, if we would be initiated in the secrets of His will—Deut. 33:3; Luke 10:39.
4. The candlestick is the symbol of testimony for Christ, for He says we are the "light of the world," and His witnesses to testify of Himself—Matt. 5:14; Acts 1:8.
These things are not only illustrative of what the Christian worker needs, but the order in which they are given is suggestive too. Rest in Christ, by being yoked with Him in the will of God, is essential, in order to have fellowship with Him, and fellowship with Him is the qualification for instruction from Him, and instruction from Him is the precursor of effective testimony for Him.
