Empowering Tremé's Cultural Legacy: A Tribute to Service and Community Support 🎉

In a heartwarming celebration at the Tomb of the Unknown Slave, the Tremé Fall Festival and Friends of Tremé Culture proudly presented a $10,000 grant to St. Augustine Catholic Church, a symbol of resilience after Hurricane Ida. The occasion, held on Sunday, Jan. 14, 2024, followed the 10 a.m. Mass and marked both a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service press conference and a cultural celebration.

Rep. Alonzo Knox emphasized the vital role of culture in New Orleans' economy and spirit, underscoring the commitment to preserving Tremé's rich heritage. The event saw grants bestowed upon cultural organizations like the New Orleans African American Museum, Historic Faubourg Tremé Association, Backstreet Cultural Museum, and more, contributing to a total of $72,000 in grants from the New Orleans Tourism and Culture Fund.

Dr. Naydja Bynum, President of Friends of Tremé Culture, highlighted the Tremé Fall Festival's dual purpose: uniting the community and providing crucial funding for culture bearers. This collective support ensures the vibrancy of Tremé's history and culture.

Join us in cherishing the spirit of service and community at the Tomb of the Unknown Slave, as we stand united to preserve and celebrate Tremé's cultural legacy.

Hope in Hand: $10,000 Donated for the Restoration of St. Augustine Catholic Church 💪 ⛪

We're thrilled to share some heartwarming news! Thanks to the incredible success of the 2022 Tremé Fall Festival and the unwavering support from our amazing community, Friends of Tremé Culture (FOTC) had the privilege to donate $10,000 of the proceeds to the restoration of the historic St. Augustine Catholic Church.

🌀🏙️ Nearly two years ago, Hurricane Ida devastated southeast Louisiana, leaving a trail of destruction in its path. Our beloved St. Augustine Catholic Church, standing strong for 182 years, faced significant damage. The iconic iron cross atop the steeple was bent, windows were blown out, and water damage wreaked havoc on its sacred walls and columns. It was a shocking and numbing experience for all.

🙏 Let's stay united and steadfast as we work towards the day we can gather again in the beautifully restored sanctuary. Your prayers, contributions, and positive energy fuel our efforts. Together, we'll witness the resurrection of St. Augustine Catholic Church! 🌟
