Venturing Crew 48
This is the place to find out all about the upcoming events and activities for Venturing Crew 48.
Summer is on the way, and while we have a few things planned for the next few months, the big one is our SuperTrip to New Mexico! We're still in the early stages of planning, but I've attached a flyer to this email that details all of what we're planning to do while we're there. If you could also fill out the attached survey, it would be extremely helpful! It's pretty simple; we just need to know who's interested in going, and what the most and least anticipated aspects of the trip are. That data will aid us greatly in making the appropriate plans and reservations, but we need it soon!

All those who are interested in attending our upcoming caving trip must attend our next Crew meeting on February 5th. We will be delivering a presentation about caving practices and equipment which, for those inexperienced at caving, will be essential in ensuring that you are prepared for this trip.
In March or April, we'll be going on a weekend backpacking trip. Though the location hasn't yet been set in stone, the Wild Azalea Trail is being considered. We also haven't determined a weekend for it, but if you'd like to weigh in on when it'll be, you can let us know which weekends work for you by filling out this quick survey!

Troop 48 is planning several canoe trips over the next few months in preparation for their summer super-trip. As far as I know, members of the Crew are also welcome to attend. The first is scheduled for the weekend of March 3rd - 5th at Okatoma Creek, the second for the weekend of March 31st - April 2nd on the Bogue Chitto River, and the third for the weekend of May 12th - 14th at a location to be determined.
Assuming the weather remains relatively clement, Crew 48 will be going on a caving and climbing trip to Pettyjohns Cave near Lafayette, GA. At the top of Pigeon Moutain, above the cave, there is an excellent spot for bouldering. The plan is to drive up there on Thursday the 23rd, spend one day caving and one climbing, and drive back on Sunday the 26th. The plan is to have several more experienced members of the Troop go caving with us. It remains to be determined whether or not this trip will also be used as an open climbing weekend for the members of the Troop less experienced with caving.
The National WWII Museum has been kind enough to set aside an entire week out of the year for Scouts to get in for free! Between January 21st and 29th, all Scouts in their Class A uniforms will be admitted free of charge! There are small fees for those accompanying Scouts, but compared to the Museum's usual prices, they're a joke; for adults accompanying uniformed Scouts, there's a $10 admission fee, and for kids accompanying Scouts, there's a $5 admission fee. Crew 48 will be attending from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM on Saturday the 28th. Anyone interested is more than welcome to come!
