“The Cultural Capital of the South.” WOW!
If I had a dollar for every time I used this phrase during a site-visit over the last 20 years, I’d still be treading water and close to giving up.
One year ago today I received a call from NOPD telling me the Mayor had determined that day that there would be no more escorted parades for the foreseeable future, and they would not be showing up for DNO’s corporate parade that very evening, even though it had been in the books for months. I had costumed revelers, a Brass Band, Grand Marshall, Pre-parade cocktails and hours d’oeuvres, as well a very excited client with 100+ guests waiting for this unique experience. What was I to do? Well, we decided to parade anyway, with all but the police. Most didn’t even notice their absence.
Little did I know what the following year would bring. No business, losing our jobs, no music for Miracle Meaux, selling our house, and now traveling around the country in our Vintage Cruiser named NOLA. Who would have ever imagined a global pandemic would bring us to our knees, praying for a vaccine (we still haven’t gotten) and a future of absolute uncertainty.
Cheers to life’s lemons and the lemonade we make. Just add Vodka, it mixes well with others.
Love. Wish we could see them in person.

Our events, meetings, conferences, entertainment and hospitality industries are really hurting. That means New Orleans is really hurting. So sad.

I want to get back to normal too. But "our normal isn’t everyone else’s normal. It won’t return when cities begin to reopen. We can’t just restart this beast of a process overnight. Most events you’ve been to — music festivals, concert tours, conferences — take anywhere from months to years to plan and coordinate."

I really miss that tour of New Orleans I get to give in a sedan with my favorite driver and a potential client. It happens so organically that we flow through a magical lunch, a tour from a local’s perspective (me) that focuses on their needs, and we meet a few wonderful “locals” along the way. We seal a creative deal before we go out for live music and celebration.

With Carnival behind us, do not be sad, for New Orleans always has plans for a party or festival. So much to to, so little time. Play today but plan for tomorrow.

This is how we create a legacy of music in New Orleans. Working with Roots of Music is always a treat. This little drum major and his bandmates are introducing our guests to our parade culture. Love helping non-profits while creating memorable event experiences. Guests were wowed by these young musicians, but imagine their surprise when they marched out the door to be greeted by 100 more band members.
Just a few more magical photos. Thank you Voodo Authentica.
Working with Take Paws Rescue and The Stray Cafe made for an amazing first experience hosting a Puppy Play Room at an event. So much sweetness and puppy breath. When my events can benefit wonderful local non-profits, it's a win win. So proud!
