When New Orleans native Robi Robichaux returned home to Algiers after an 18-year stint in Orlando, Fla., he wasn’t sure how to translate his theme park focused career in his hometown. But it was through taking the Friends of the Cabildo tour guide class that Robi gained a whole new profession.

“On day one of the tour guide class, they tell you that you’ll meet your new best friends,” says Robi. “And they were absolutely right.”

Robi says that the tour guide classes run by the Friends of the Cabildo are truly a unique experience. The Friends of the Cabildo Walking Tour Guide program provides intensive and comprehensive training for tour guides. The program provides an intensive overview of New Orleans history, architecture and culture. In addition to the academic component, trainees are provided training on presentation techniques and guided on conducting tours. #Readmore at https://friendsofthecabildo.org/teaching-new-orleans-ambassadors/

FOC Concert Series: Ivan Neville 106th Prof. Longhair Birthday Concert
Son of the great soul singer Aaron Neville, Ivan Neville was born in 1959, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and is an accomplished multi-intrumentalist, songwriter, and singer. He first started playing in a band in 1977 - Renegade was its name - and still as a teenager, Ivan joined his father and uncles in the nascent Neville Brothers, serving as third keyboardist, along with Art Neville and Gerald “Professor Shorthair” Tillman. Though he has performed often with the Neville Brothers, he established himself as a go-to studio and touring musician. He was a member of Bonnie Raitt's band between 1985-1987, and guested on other dates by a plethora of artists including the Rolling Stones, Don Henley, Paula Abdul, Robbie Robertson, Rufus, Delbert McClinton. He was also a member of Keith Richards' touring X-Pensive Winos outfit on the Talk Is Cheap tour. Neville and his cousin, Ian Neville (son of Art Neville) formed the diverse jam band Dumpstaphunk in the early 2000s. Throughout his solo career, he has released four solo albums and had a Top 30 Billboard hit with the first single "Not Just Another Girl" from his debut solo album If My Ancestors Could See Me Now. His second single "Falling Out of Love" was a duet with singer Bonnie Raitt that reached 91 on the Billboard charts. The song was also featured in the 1989 comedy Skin Deep, starring John Ritter. Professor Longhair “The Bach of Rock,” New Orleans composer Allen Toussaint called him. The cornerstone of New Orleans rhythm & blues piano, Professor Longhair’s astounding music influenced the work of Fats Domino, Dr. John, James Booker, Huey “Piano” Smith, Art Neville, and Allen Toussaint himself. Longhair’s unique appeal lay in his offbeat songs, his warbling voice and the infectiously syncopated piano style which he once described as a blend of “rhumba, mambo and calypso.”
