Very happy to work with these excellent people, who are doing such important work.
at on a hot, humid New Orleans summer night.
A few frames I recently shot with my new Nikon Z8. Capoeira is a challenging subject to capture, and a perfect test environment for learning a new system’s AF. Very pleased! Huge congrats to my kiddo and all the others that graduated to their next corda (belt). If you’re not familiar with capoeira, it’s certainly a fascinating subject to read up on. You can thank me later.
Something a little different, but this was a ton of fun to do. Over here in Gentilly, we are super lucky to have one of the last family run independent hardware stores in what seems like the whole world. Mike’s Hardware is a social hub, a place to shoot the breeze, and a place to get solid advice for most any repair or project. I must have been in there every day for about 2 years while renovating our house 😂 They’ve just done a website refresh, and have an article coming out in an industry magazine, so we got everyone together for some professional photos. Pictured in the second slide are Lee and Rob, owners of the store, and sons of the founders. They even lived above the store for a time growing up!
Some recent cocktail photography for I really love being able to collaborate with my sister on these products. Besides being a co-owner of the bar, she handmade the incredible bar top and vases, and directed the interior design. Check her out! Shot these on the Fuji XT-2, mostly with a single light. Next time I’m going to get a little bit more fancy 😂
Black and white feels from a night of incredible music at Snug Harbor back in fall 2022. Love watching the musicians connect and communicate without words.
Photographed the celebration of life of Roberto Carrillo today, and played some music with a few dear friends at the same time. Sometimes we think of culture as some sort of static thing that just always has been, but the reality is that it is an ever morphing flow of ideas and practices. It was quite touching to see so many people come out to celebrate someone who put so much working into making culture, via his music, the Krewe of Mayahuel, Tamojunto and more. It was an honor to document this event, and be there for the music, ceremony and words from friends. Lots to think about this evening!

Some recent portraits for the great woodwind player A “few” years back I made some photos for him over at the Tree of Life, and Khari was kind enough to remember me when it was time for some updated material. Always brings the great energy and a vision!
A few from a recent press conference with in partnership with the city of New Orleans and other entities, celebrating the announcement of the new reforestation plan for the city. New Orleans lost a deve stating amount of trees in Katrina, and more recently, Ida. Trees reduce the heat island effect (among the worst in the country), store epic amounts of water, lower utility bills and provide shelter and shade for citizens. As a lover of trees, I am personally very excited about this, and especially hopeful that the underserved communities in New Orleans can one day enjoy tree lined streets as many in Uptown, Lakeview and other neighborhoods currently do.
This one just feels fully New Orleans.
Recent professional portraits (never have liked the term “headshots”) for Chris Edmunds. Chris is an upstanding citizen, an inspiring father and an attorney that is ready to fight for the right causes - check him out at http://chrisedmundslawoffice.com
Shot with my Fujifilm XT-4, which I am really growing to love.
B&W vibes for this small set from a recent batizado at The challenge is always getting tight enough and well framed shots while they’re bouncing around doing stuff that seems impossible.
Couple of shots from the presentation at Jazzfest. Capoeira is a Brazilian art form created by enslaved Afro-Brazilians, with deep musical ties to its African roots. Participants “play” capoeira in a mutually respectful competition/partnership, challenging each other without malice or contact. It is truly a beautiful thing to see alive and well. It is also a challenge to shoot! I’m always working on getting frames that are tight enough, without flailing arms and legs blocking a face 🤣
Stopped by the the other day for lunch, and ended up doing a little photo session on some of their new menu items. I’m not a huge good photographer, but I really enjoy it when I get a chance to do it. Shot on my new Fujifilm XT-4, which I really like so far!!
Back in early February, I had the pleasure of hanging with the .kayak krewe for some fishing, photography and R&D on the brand new Knarr model. I almost had to leave my strobes behind due to weight, but boy I’m glad I brought them, because we had a great evening photo session with one of the sunsets is known for. I’ll be posting more of this content over on my fishing page over the next couple weeks.
Very much looking forward to photographing these lovely folks this coming weekend as they officially join their lives. We had a nice portrait session a little while back at the Tree of Life, one of the most magical live oak trees in the city. Glad to be back at it!
Some of the delicious food at , alongside their collab Kolsch with , and plated on serving ware made by my sister This is a vibrant and fun gathering spot in Durham, NC doing simple, but delicious food and drink. I also made these ash tabletops through my side-hustle
New Mexico is kind of capturing my soul. Really enjoying my time here!
Enjoying a road trip to Santa Fe with the family, and also enjoying shooting a little infrared with my Fuji Xpro-2. Considering how intense the sun feels here, this stark, black and white infrared look feels right.
A few more highlights from Rubin cutting at , featuring , , as well as the Pussyfooters and the Organ Grinders, both of whom I’m afraid to tag for fear of getting the wrong page 🤣
Some nice details from at , a new boutique hotel in the CBD. I had the pleasure to photograph their ribbon cutting ceremony the other day, and it is really a neat and unique space with a definite vibe. Looking forward to working there again and seeing some live music in this space!
Successful product shoot yesterday with these cutting boards I’ve been making as part of a little hustle I set up while Covid had photography sidelined - Nice to be able to do this all in-house!
These folks were too cool, and what a picture perfect engagement! I had a great time with a quick helicopter tour of the city, and he popped the question right after we landed! I love doing this kind of shoot, it is all about the excitement and emotion of the moment. He was super smooth about it, and she was thrilled. The folks at were extremely professional and helpful with us, and it was pretty fun to fly almost right over our house! I'll have to post a few more portraits of them soon.
This lovely couple had a blast at their wedding, and it was really touching when they saw each other dressed up for the first time. I love finding little spots like this to shoot some secluded photos of just the bride and groom. It can be really hard for them to find any one on one time on the actual wedding day, so a few minutes of portraits can be really .
Working on cocktail photography a lot this week, and learning a ton of new tricks and recipes. Still have a lot to learn about this particular photography niche! It’s fun stuff.
One of the aspects of photography that I really enjoy is the challenge of quickly assessing someone for a portrait, making them feel comfortable, and capturing the most flattering angle and pose for them. Most average folks aren't 100% comfortable in front of a camera, so it takes a bit of experience on the photographer's part to be reassuring and positive. This was a shoot for 10 folks, with only about 5 minutes budgeted for each person, shot for a local business. I tried to make sure everybody got a slightly different look. Without time for additional lighting or production, it was a great exercise in making quick judgments.
What an incredible morning this was. It’s beautiful to see the light change the way the water looks, minute-by-minute as the sun rises. I’m sure good times were had watching sunrises at this abandoned camp.
