Chef Scott's Creole BBQ

When I created the "Ghetto Burger" people thought I was "thowed off". Another one of Demietriek's crazy ideas. A few short year's later we have sold nearly 75,000 of these burgers.

Truth is, the term "Ghetto Burger" was never meant to be a derogatory name. It's a tribute to where I come from and the spirit of the people I grew up with. When you grow up in the ghetto, you have to be resourceful. You have to make due with what you have. You have to share what little you have with those around you.

When I was growing up, we didn't eat out much. My mom cooked religiously. When we wanted fast food, more times than not we got a "ghetto" burger. Be honest. You've had one before. Mom seasoned that ground beef, cut up some seasoning, and dropped it between some Bunny Bread.

The Ghetto Burger is a celebration of that spirit. Now food trucks and catering companies all over the US have come up with their own version of the Ghetto Burger. I see ya'll, but just know that what we have over here is the "Origino"!!

Now when people travel to New Orleans from all over the world they seek me out to get that fix. People from all walks of life. Rich and poor. All races and ethnicities. Think about the irony. Those of us from the ghetto were trying to get out. Now I'm able to give people a inside look in my own little way through my food.

Chef Scott is feeling overwhelmed today. Overwhelmed with a feeling of gratitude. At the core I'm just a little black boy from the projects. I could've easily become another statistic coming out of New Orleans. I've been shot. I've been to prison. I've been counted out, but yet I'm still here doing what I love and using my gift to leave a mark on the world.
Ya'll know I play all day, but when I slip on this chef's coat it's serious to me. Real serious. I'm not necessarily where I want to be, but just to get to where I am, I had to beat the odds.

Sometimes we get caught up in what we want and forget to thank God for what he has already blessed us with. During this Mardi Gras season, I can't lie I had some days when I got frustrated. Sometimes it feels like I take one step forward and two backwards.

But then I sat back and thought about all of the people I've fed over the years. Famous rappers, athletes, reality stars, politicians, and good old working class people. Chef Scott may not be a household name just yet, but I'm coming. I promise I'm coming. For all of ya'll that believed in me and supported me to this point, I'm coming.
