“La vida es como la espuma, por eso hay que darse como el mar”
Recommendation
Y tu mamá también is a coming of age story of two boys who embark on a road trip with a woman in her late 20s. A time of transition for not only the boys but the woman and the country as well.Set in 1999 México, a period of social, political, and economic change. Alfonso Cuarón uses the narrative of the film to challenge the conventions of masculinity/machismo found with Latine culture and highlight the class issues within México. This critically acclaimed film was received well in México and internationally.
Check back here every Friday for a new Latinx movie recommendation for your cozy weekend movie nights. 🍿

Geographic Highlight of Latin America: Malpelo Island, Colombia
Malpelo is an island 500km off the Pacific Coast of Colombia and holds the largest no-fishing zone in the Eastern Tropical Pacific. Despite being only 0.46 square miles, it contains huge amounts of marine biodiversity. It has many endemic species, including three species of reptiles, two species of starfish, one terrestrial crab, and many more. Malpelo's reefs are considered a 'reservoir' for sharks and are one of the only places in the world where the short-nosed ragged-tooth shark has been sighted. In 2006, Malpelo was designated a UNESCO world heritage site.
