I’m not one to post much personal stuff, so this is a leap for me. I’ve come to realize it might be ok to let my friends, like you, know what I’ve been going through this year.

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in JAN. I wasn’t even able to utter those words until recently. Part of what made this news so terrifying is the complexity of each woman’s case. I didn’t know, for months, exactly what this diagnosis meant for me. This made it difficult to talk about & share with people because I didn’t know what was going to happen.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here’s what I know now: it’s stage 1, which means it’s curable - thank God. I’m grateful, despite 3 surgeries, I did not require a mastectomy. I am, however, receiving chemo and I will require radiation. Yes, my hair is thinning, and I’m not done with treatments yet. I hate the idea of being vain, yet, I must admit, once I learned and accepted that I’m going to be ok, thinning hair is one of the hardest parts of this process. The irony of being a hairdresser and losing my hair, even if only temporarily, is a tough one to digest.

Ever the optimist, I also felt compelled to share, in addition to the incredible support system I have who love me (you know who you are ❤️) that my craft has been an essential part of my solace in all this. I have been so fortunate for many reasons in my life and my career continues to be a huge source of fulfillment.

I love what I do ✨️ Hairdressing and educating has given me the gift of feeling good when I have felt my most vulnerable and terrified this year. It’s given me a sense of normalcy and purpose. It’s given me a sense of accomplishment when so much has been completely out of my control and I’ve questioned if it will ever get better. It’s a reminder that giving service to others is still one of the best ways to enrich one’s soul.
