#FlashbackFriday to our visit from Council Member Yusef Salaam last week. It was a pleasure to host the Council Member and introduce him to our Harlem playspace where we serve our families. We're not ashamed to say that many of us were starstruck to be in the Council Member's presence! During our discussion led by our Executive Director Adeline Medeiros, we heard from parents about the impact and accessibility of our no-cost programs. Thanks again to Council Member Salaam and your team for making this visit possible. #TheChildrensStorefront#CommunitySupport#ChildDevelopmentMatters#GiveBackToHarlemKids#EarlyChildhoodEducation#SupportingChildDevelopment

The next time you're contemplating whether your child needs a new toy to stimulate their brain, go to the kitchen and fill up a container with water instead. Kids can pour and transfer with measuring cups and spoons. They can squeeze sponges, drain colanders, feel around with their hands or even their feet and that's only the beginning. In doing so, they can learn concepts like "wet" and "dry", "empty" and "full", and "in" and "out". Water play helps teach cause and effect, inspire creative exploration and problem solving, and helps improve fine motor skills. Don't forget that everything you need to help your child build a strong foundation for lifelong success is already within you (and your kitchen, too)! #earlychildhood #earlychildhooddevelopment #water #finemotorskills #science #causeandeffect #learning #education #parents #parenting #kidsactivities

Responsive, back and forth interactions help children's brain development. An easy and powerful way to support your child in a responsive way is to talk to them. You can narrate your actions when you change their clothes. You can describe the environment when you're out on a walk. Or you can simply wait for their eyes to focus on something and tell them what they see. When in doubt, talk! #Braindevelopment #earlychildhood #parents #toddlers #education #educational #earlychildhooddevelopment
