to our visit from Council Member Yusef Salaam last week. It was a pleasure to host the Council Member and introduce him to our Harlem playspace where we serve our families.

We're not ashamed to say that many of us were starstruck to be in the Council Member's presence!

During our discussion led by our Executive Director Adeline Medeiros, we heard from parents about the impact and accessibility of our no-cost programs.

Thanks again to Council Member Salaam and your team for making this visit possible.

June 11, 2024 is the UN's inaugural International Day of Play. Advocates asked the United Nations General Assembly to create this day of recognition because they know what we know: children learn through play.

Play is valuable in part because it provides a space for the back and forth interactions that young brains need to make long-lasting connections. Age 0-3 is the most valuable time to support these connections.

Our free programs center play in our efforts to give families of children ages 0-3 the support they need to set their children up for lifelong success.

Finding moments of play throughout the day is a simple way to build a child's developing brain.

Making a recurring or one-time contribution to The Children's Storefront is a simple way to help promote profound growth in the children we serve.

Take a moment today for play. And if you are able, consider making a donation to our free programs.

06/09/2024

Today is National Children's Day. This day was created to remind us of the important place children hold in society.

Over the last year we've served 450 unique families. Which means we've had the pleasure of welcoming well over 450 children into our Harlem play space.

Our free programs empower children by empowering caregivers to support their development with tools that set children up for lifelong success.

When you make a gift to The CHildren's Storefront, you empower us to impact our most important audience: children.

Help make an impact today by clicking the link in our bio.

In just a few days we will be increasing our in-person program offerings.

We now have a class serving all ages 0-3 each program day and we have expanded structured sessions on Saturdays and Sundays. Caregivers may notice that some class times have shifted. We made these adjustments in response to feedback from our program families.

We remain here for you Wednesday-Sunday, now with more opportunities to learn, play and grow with your child.

May is AANHPI heritage month. Originally, AAPI, the name was changed in 2021. This expansion to Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month was done to more inclusively represent Native Hawaiians.

One way to broaden a child's cultural knowledge in an age-appropriate manner is to talk to them about cultures inside and outside of their family.

Swipe to slide 2 for simple definitions to help jump-start your conversations about AANHPI Heritage Month.

The theme of 2024 is to inspire inclusion. Embracing diversity moves us closer to gender equality.

Feminism and gender parity are big concepts for the children in our programs to comprehend. But the many women they see who make up our community--caregivers, board members, community partners, and staff--model for them the power of women in the world.

To all the women that have made The Children's Storefront what it is, we celebrate you.

02/17/2024

6 days and counting!

Our caregiver support group starts Friday, February 23rd. Limited spots are available for caregivers with children 0-18 months of age.

We all deserve a chance to connect, share knowledge, and be reminded that caregivers deserve support, too!

Thanks to the generosity of The Children's Storefront families, board members, and friends of the storefront, we exceeded our $15,000 goal.

43% of donations came from our participating families, and 50% were under $100. Proof that gifts of any size carry a huge impact.

We can only deliver our free-of-cost programming in Harlem and online with this support from our vast community.

Thank you to everyone who made a contribution.

It is February 1st already! Happy Black History Month.

Talking about what we see children doing and feeling is helps their brains grow. This works, in part, because we are helping them connect what they are experiencing with the language we use to describe those experiences.

In that way, talking about significant moments in the larger world, like Black History Month, is an equally powerful way to introduce bigger ideas to our children.

Do you talk to your child about Black History Month? If so, how? What other ways do you introduce new concepts, events, and ideas to your children?

A mother from our Thriving Threes group recently shared some lovely words about what The Children's Storefront means to her.

😊 We mean it when we say that this is what we live for! Caring for children is often stressful and isolating. We firmly believe that strengthening the bonds between caregivers and children, and caregivers and their communities, are the keys to childhood development that lead to lifelong success.

Why? Because the science tells us so.
