Strength, stability, and smiles! The MTA LIRR Third Track team held a two-day workshop with 200+ fifth graders at Middle School to learn the principals of structural engineering and build a bridge. Students also watched time-lapse videos of the recent installation of the nearby Denton Ave Bridge.

Big day in the Village of Mineola, celebrating the new Mineola Harrison Ave Parking Garage. MTA Construction & Development President Jamie Torres-Springer, LIRR Interim President Catherine Rinaldi, and LIRR Expansion Project Executive Anthony Tufano were joined by Mayor Paul Pereira, Deputy Mayor Janine Sartori, and Trustee Paul Cusato. Just steps away from the Mineola LIRR station, the garage has 551 spaces with an elevator and Help Points throughout the facility.

How to install a new 1,400-ton rail bridge in a single weekend:

1. Remove third rail & track panels
2. Demo old bridge & excavate
3. Jack the U-structure 49 ft into position
4. Backfill the pit
5. Install new track panels, third rail, and ballast
6. Surface tracks & test signals
7. Run test trains

What a difference a week makes! Speedy progress at the MTA LIRR Denton Avenue Bridge Replacement Project. Crews are finishing the concrete U-box substructure, which will span the underground storm drainage and sanitary sewer that exists beneath the roadway. Next up: the new superstructure will be assembled on-site, and the entire bridge will be jacked into place over a single weekend.

Construction of the new Denton Avenue Bridge along the LIRR Main Line has begun! Utility relocation is underway, with steel assembly soon to follow. The Denton Avenue Bridge is the last of 7 bridges replaced or upgraded as part of the transformative MTA LIRR Expansion Project.

On Monday, January 3, Tanners Pond Road and Denton Avenue will close from Main Avenue to Railroad Avenue in Garden City. It is expected this closure will remain in place while 3TC completes this project element. For more information and detour maps please see the flyer below.
