I’m extremely excited to be hosting this year’s fundraiser for The Muse on Sunday, July 18th. It’s going to be a great show with a stellar line-up of New York City’s finest circus and variety artistes, all in support of an excellent cause. With in-person shows having returned, I haven't been doing as many virtual performances lately, but was delighted to present Virtual Impossibilities for a very fun corporate audience yesterday. 🤓🥂

How Lin-Manuel Miranda and Friends Made an Old Bookstore New 06/08/2021

I'm so glad to see this place getting the revival it deserves. Kudos to Lin-Manuel Miranda for keeping this institution alive. 🥂

How Lin-Manuel Miranda and Friends Made an Old Bookstore New The century-old Drama Book Shop in Manhattan struggled for years. Then “Hamilton” happened.

I cannot tell you how happy I am to be performing at live, in-person events again. Virtual shows have their merits, but nothing will ever replace the joy and exhilaration of performing in-person for flesh-and-blood human beings. 🤓🥂

Digital Be Damned! Welcome to Shows You Can Touch and Feel. 06/03/2021

"Theater is a dialogue between artists and audience that’s also a ritual for the senses — which, after such a surfeit of digital drama, are primed to tingle."

Digital Be Damned! Welcome to Shows You Can Touch and Feel. Fuzzy puppet sheep. A light cutting through the haze. Hand-designed dreamscapes. There’s plenty to savor in the slow return of pixel-free theater.

Magic Tricks May Fool You, but These Birds Can See Through Them 06/01/2021

The Mystery of Magic’s Greatest Card Trick 05/25/2021

I've been an admirer of the work of David Berglas for many years. It's great to see him treated with the reverence he deserves.

A Desperate India Falls Prey to Covid Scammers 05/18/2021

As scams go, this is awfully brazen:

"The police say the supplier — a business called Varsha Engineering, essentially a scrapyard — had been repainting fire extinguishers and selling them as oxygen canisters."

A Desperate India Falls Prey to Covid Scammers As the health care system fails, clandestine markets have emerged for drugs, oxygen, hospital beds and funeral services. Fake goods may be putting lives at risk.

Broadway Is Reopening. But Not Until September. 05/06/2021

"[I]ndividually and collectively, [Broadway producers] are trying to imagine when large numbers of people are likely to feel comfortable traveling to Times Square, funneling through cramped lobbies and walking down narrow aisles to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with strangers."

Broadway Is Reopening. But Not Until September. Even as New York City begins to reopen this summer, Broadway will not resume performances until Sept. 14. Here’s why.

With things slowly but steadily returning to some semblance of normal in the entertainment world, my calendar is, for the first time since the start of the pandemic, beginning to be filled with in-person performances.

As such, the theatrical run of Virtual Impossibilities at the Mile Square Theatre is coming to an end ahead of schedule.

You have just one more chance to see this show. This Friday night, the 23rd, will be the last time that I present Virtual Impossibilities as a public, ticketed event, at least for the foreseeable future.

So, if you want to experience this show for yourself, now's the time!

After the success of the March production, my interactive mentalism show, Virtual Impossibilities, returns to the Mile Square Theatre for another run!

We've partnered with three other theatre companies, Arthouse Productions, Hudson Theatre Works, and Luna Stage, to bring the show to the widest possible audience.

I'm so excited about the changes I've made to the show and can't wait to share them with you!

Performances will be Friday and Saturday nights at 8:00 Eastern.

What Is Life Without Burlesque? 03/26/2021

"Burlesque often thrives on the fringes of society, cropping up with a vengeance during times of prohibition and oppression, but during the pandemic, even underground art forms have been at a loss. Many performers say they have no idea what burlesque will look like on the other side."

What Is Life Without Burlesque? Their venues are closed and their stages are dark, but New York City’s burlesque performers are itching for the return of feathers, tassels and harnesses.

Tasmanian Tigers Are Extinct. Why Do People Keep Seeing Them? 03/19/2021

As a mentalist and professional purveyor of mystery, I'm in the business of manipulating people's perceptions in order to create the subjective experience of the impossible. This process often involves the exploitation of cognitive biases, which, as this excellent article details, are abundant in the human mind.

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/10/science/thylacines-tasmanian-tigers-sightings.html?campaign_id=34&emc=edit_sc_20210316&instance_id=28103&nl=science-times®i_id=72371946&segment_id=53500&te=1&user_id=ac44b9f7107871951a23ac8848a936d1

Tasmanian Tigers Are Extinct. Why Do People Keep Seeing Them? Quirks of the human mind and how we process information might explain the uncanny appearances of thylacines.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day, everyone! What could be more Irish than experiencing a virtual mentalism show this weekend? Lots of things, probably. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do it! And who knows? In addition to near-miraculous feats of mind-reading, there might be references to leprechauns and shamrocks! ☘️ 😗

I Miss Being Part of an Audience 03/12/2021

"[A] year of live online entertainment has never really captured one key element: Focus. There is an intensity of attention in a crowd, fully engaged and sharing a space, that is absent in looking at your screen. Internet shows do provide community, but it’s harder to lose yourself in the show when there are other tabs open — or to suspend disbelief sitting on your bed."

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/09/arts/television/live-audience-pandemic.html?action=click&module=RelatedLinks&pgtype=Article

I Miss Being Part of an Audience Crowds can be mindless, even dangerous. But that feeling of losing yourself as you experience art together hasn’t been replicated since live entertainment went online.
