Was it hard to build this wall? Yes. Read why in my piece written for Urban Omnibus. I detail the journey we took to transform the materials of old buildings into a final composition at Carroll Hall.

Locust leaves and limestone creating a zen garden before they blow away. Why I like designing landscapes. We design a starting point- nature and people do the constant reinvention.

A house, surgically implanted into the Earth
Dameron Architecture wins an AIANY 2022 Design Award! "Citation for Reclaiming Urban Space" for the garden and event space project in Bushwick called "Carroll Hall"
We're honored to receive this prestigious award. But it's especially exciting because we are a small company, 13 years old (geologically speaking that's no time at all). It's great to be mentioned alongside accomplished, and innovative firms we admire, and other architects we have worked with (and for).

Venue Space (and amazing client): Carroll Hall
Thanks AIANY!

"Carroll Hall is a hidden botanical walled garden and a series of specialized venue spaces in Bushwick, Brooklyn. A place of stillness, unconcerned with the outside world is offered within these 10,000 square feet of indoor/outdoor space. The project is made from materials of the buildings that were demolished to create it. The garden expresses the geological and natural history of Brooklyn incorporating ideas of time travel and ecology to create immersive, unlikely experiences."
So happy to be able share this house we completed 2 years ago. A renovation of a brownstone in Prospect Heights for some terrific clients more pics to come!

This is how Architecture happens!
Work in progress in the Catskills. Early stage 4x6 inch sketches for an extensive reno in construction now. All of our projects start out with little cards like these. I'd like to post more of them this year.
Snapshot of a seating area at our office. Our natural materials library. I thought I should take a picture before it got messy again :)
Chairs are Eames LCW, molded walnut veneer ply. Jeanneret chair, a replica made by of reclaimed teak from "Project Chandigarh" collection. Solid oak reclaimed floorboard plank boxes by Dameron. Organized beautifully by and . now we just need time to sit down!

I'll be speaking this Thursday about Architecture's relationship with natural ventilation. We'll be talking about mixed-mode ventilation, biophilic design, and analysis of buildings for implementation of fresh air strategies to combat the spread of airborne pathogens. Please Join us!

The two boys in the photos are solitary figures. one walking on a wall in a desert and the other shootin' pool at a dive bar out west. They pair well.

Love the materials here! lime-washed plywood walls. The floor is a combination of custom precast slabs and reclaimed glazed terracotta from the site. The ceiling/roof is combination of existing reused 100 year old yellow pine joists inlaid with lime-washed plywood. skylight consists of sky and glass, white paint. the effect we were going for is that the space could be spatially neutral for multiple uses and materially specific for all uses. Built to evolve with real materials over time. no drywall!

The Rainbow cave.
With the push of a grey door, a cave (aka a windowless bathroom) is discovered. A soft curtain transfers rainbow colors to the tile floor and then they flow up the wall until it is broken up by mosaic tile, shiny and flat, swirling into a mysterious handcrafted, arched door. Where does it go?
Mosaic wall by Cristina Salas and custom rainbow curtain by Sakeena Ashiru in collaboration and advisement by the five-year-old client.
