I'm thrilled to have my blog and New Year's message shared by Honoring the Future at the Smithsonian.

This nifty screen shot represents most of a travel capsule that I curated for a client about to enjoy two weeks in southern Spain with her husband. The trip will have an educational component and a fair amount of walking.

We arranged that she’ll bring long silk underwear to wear under her new Pleats Please pants. This way, she will be warmer when embarking on cooler mornings and can peel off that inner layer during the day as the temperature moderates.

She has more outfit options than there are days of the trip. Fortunately, these cheerful sections will be of great service to her when she returns home just in time for springtime.

Of special note, check out how I incorporated four MARY JAEGER: DESIGN IN TEXTILES scarves to take each look to another level of cohesion and sophistication. This allows the client to avoid taking more jewelry than she will wear while flying abroad.

The net weight of all of this clothing is about 10 lbs!

The Daily Wrap: Royal Blue Arch Silk Duster in Process

This is CRUNCH WEEK as I prepare my new collection of UNFOLDED PROJECT: ACCORDION DUSTERS for the Smithsonian Craft Show in Washington, D.C. April 25-28.

I'm loving my spacious atelier in Brooklyn (continuing work on cabinet construction and redesigning the dyeing studio - but it is coming together eventually) and appreciate the luxury of space and being able to spread out projects in work.

Today I'm immersed in stitching, dyeing and couture detailing --- cranking up some good tunes and podcasts to inspire and keep my creativity juiced. Last week I listened to audio books "Becoming" by and "Supermarket" by Bobby Hall. I recommend both. And Oprah Winfrey just published "The Path Made Clear: Discovering Your Life's Direction and Purpose" --- my take away being life is short, do what you LOVE doing!

Let's see what this week brings...stay tuned as the dusters emerge from the dyebath!

The series of photos demonstrate a few of the ways the neck wraps can be styled as soft sculptures — adding a touch of zest to a Little Black Dress or layered with a college of patterns and colors for a personalized, edgy mode. The pleats are permanent and play with the concepts of compressing and releasing.
