How do you choose bathroom doors considering the specifics of these rooms?

This question depends as much on the desire to install a door made of a particular material as on the size of the bathroom itself.

▶️If the bathroom is large enough to place an enclosed shower cabin, bathtub, toilet, bidet, and sink, and with all these, there is still room left to move, then the door core material is not limited by anything, because the water will most likely not get to it at all.

▶️If, however, the bathroom is so tight one could hardly move in there, as there is a bathtub near one wall, a sink by the other, and in the back, there is a washing machine, then it is clear that the door core will constantly be affected by high humidity, and one should then select the appropriate material and finishing.

There are several weak points in the door concerning its moisture resistance:

1. Some doors have a protective coating applied separately to the core itself and then to its edge. Thus, a hidden joint is formed between the edge and the core. Leaks in these joints can cause moisture to get into the door core, gradually leading to a deterioration of the entire door.

2. The top and bottom edges of the door will never be covered with protective material. Getting direct moisture to these areas of the door is unlikely, but through them, the door can accumulate moisture from the room. It is best to treat the top and bottom edges of the door with a protective varnish. This is especially true for bathroom doors.

One of the most attractive coatings in terms of price are laminated doors. We at Almes use only films, and there are two types, CPL is essentially plastic, but more durable than films and veneer. Such doors can easily be installed in a room with up to 60% humidity. The problem is hydrophobic properties, it absorbs moisture from the air, then it dries up and the wooden sheet can twist or peel off something.

❗There is another option to use ventilation holes in the doors, then steam is not collected in the room, which means that the door does not absorb moisture in large volumes.

The first thing to remember is that you need special products, which are sold in almost every store. The care itself consists of the following steps:

✔️ wiping off the dust with a damp soft cloth, and then with a dry cloth so that no streaks remain;
✔️ wiping the windows before using a soapy solution to remove grease and stains that are most often found on kitchen doors;
✔️ wiping with polish.

Once every six months it is worth wiping with a universal solution that you can make yourself. It should contain water and alcohol (9:1 proportion). The use of abrasive agents not specifically designed for doors may result in deformation and loss of presentation. For the same reason it is not recommended to use hard brushes, sponges or scrapers with metal coating.

It is better to wipe the doors with a soft cloth or damp soft sponge. You can remove grease stains by applying a little gentle dishwashing detergent, then wiping it dry. Such products are also used for degreasing for regular cleaning, which is carried out 1-2 times a month.

As you have understood from what I have read, it is not difficult to properly care for the doors, just wipe them periodically with a damp material, after which it is imperative to wipe them dry.

The raised moldings is reminiscent of the Neoclassical period in architecture, when construction of attractive residential buildings were all the rage, completely changing the face of numerous major cities around the globe.

💬 It's better to install the door units themselves after you've put in the flooring. And not just because it makes everything look neat and beautiful!

When installing, for example, porcelain tile, the difference in height between the screed and the finished floor can be several centimeters (almost a full inch of difference)!

And do not forget to leave a 0.2 – 0.4 inch gap to allow normal expansion/contraction of the structure.

❓ Before or after finishing the walls?
💬 We usually put the wallpaper/paint on the walls first and then mount the doors. The door casings are mounted on the finished wall.

❓ And what if the walls have a combined coating - paint and tile. What should I do?
💬 There are two options here - either the tiles should be put up after the trim, or with a small indentation. There is an option to plaster the wall before painting to the same level as the tiles, and paint afterward. Then see the previous answer.

💬Frameless doors are installed during the prep work phase. It does not matter whether there is a screedthreshold or not, it is important to understand the level of the finished floor.
