Bronx Charter School for Better Learning
Elementary schools that recognize and nurture every child's natural ability to learn.
BBL was chartered in 2003 and currently has serves just over 1000 students across two campuses. These students are primarily from low-income, minority families, including 94% who are African-American, and over 75% who are economically disadvantaged (eligible for the federal Free/Reduced Price Lunch Program). There is a large immigrant population in the community, and many of our studentsβ parents

It's always great to receive a visit from a Bronx Better Learning Board Member!

The future is so bright! β¨
At Bronx Charter Schools for Better Learning, we believe that all children are inherently brilliant and naturally equipped with a remarkable power to learn.
Our unique approach is called the Subordination of Teaching to Learning, and it's the time-tested and successful approach we have been using since our founding more than 20 years ago.
You can learn more about the history of this approach and how we use it in the classroom by clicking this link:

On National Day of Encouragement, a day dedicated to uplifting people and making a positive impact, we can all take a moment to think about those who've encouraged us and how we can encourage others, especially as it pertains to our educational journeys. And thankfully, this is a virtue we engage in daily at our schools!
Happy Monday - the first of a brand new academic year!
Since our founding in 2003, our goal has always been to provide our students with a solid foundation for academic success. We're unique, child-centered, lucky to have a close-knit staff akin to a family, and we as a school community are excited for a year of learning and achievement ahead!
And... we're back!
We hope everyone has a wonderful 2024-25 school year!
How lucky are we that ELA PD Specialist Doris Fleming also looks after the BBL gardens and beautifies our schools each year? Thanks to her efforts, we're bursting with vibrant color in time for the first day of school! πΊπΈπΌ

August is Back to School Month, a time to look ahead to the start of the academic school year and to prepare!
This is the perfect time, with just weeks left of summer recess, to make sure students are equipped with the necessary school supplies, as well as a positive mindset, to start the year off on the right note, with a focus on setting new routines and mental well-being as children transition from summer break to their time back in the classroom.

Happy Monday, BBL community!
In June, our BBL 1 graduates took to the stage to celebrate their academic achievements and smiled for the camera alongside Dr. Aderemi Ogundiran. Here is the full album; we hope you enjoy these happy photos.
We're so honored to have been a part of their educational journeys and are incredibly proud of their successes. We're eager to see what they do next as they continue on in their schooling. We know that the world is their oyster and that they will do great things!
It's hard to believe but school is back in session in just a little more than one month -- the first day back is Sept. 5!
Our schools offer scholars a learning-centered, caring, rigorous academic experience. Our approach combines genuine love and care with the expectation that our students are more than capable of academic excellence; our students come to us with innate brilliance. Teachers are trained to become expert observers, assessing progress both in students and in themselves.
We teach with the understanding that worthwhile learning does not always follow a straight line. That's why our classrooms use carefully designed instructional experiences to ensure coursework resonates meaningfully.

Today is International Day of Friendship, a day which seeks to honor a shared spirit of human solidarity. At BBL, our staff and students alike form unbreakable bonds, many of which will last their entire lives. We value the friendships that have made in our buildings throughout the decades and look forward to many more friendships that will be formed in the years to come!
