All of the National Prosthodontic Resident Exams from 2007 – 2023 are now available on ACP Anywhere, exclusively for ACP members!
Each year, the ACP National Prosthodontic Resident Examination Subcommittee creates the exam that is comprised of questions submitted by prosthodontic program directors and ACP Fellows. It serves as a great learning tool for residents and experienced specialists. You can test your knowledge with the exams first, and then download the versions that include answers and references to see how you score.
The 2024 National Prosthodontic Resident Exam will be available on ACP Anywhere later this month, so keep an eye out for that announcement. ACP Anywhere is the place for online education and resources from the ACP!

I received a beautiful note from a patient who moved away. Truth be told I was the one who was moved reading it...
Dear Dr. De Santis. It took me a while to write to you with Thank you!I I can’t express in words my appreciation for what you did for me. You had changed my whole life. I’m able to smile and don’t have to cover my mouth. It’s been over 10 years and I’m still going strong. I’m doing everything not to waste the wonderful work you did for me. I remember when you asked me to be your Board Patient. At first I don’t understand what you said to me. When you started I realized what you meant. I was grateful that you decided to help me. Many dentists through the years try to help me. Dr. De Santis you are the only one that was able to fix all of my teeth, gums and also correct my bite. It was tough decision for us to leave Staten Island after 50 years. Leave our friends and good doctors. We moved here to be close to our family. So far it looks that we made the right decision. Unfortunately it’s hard to travel to SI. My husband is almost 84, we needed to find doctors locally. He had his Aortc Valve replaced and Pacemakers put in. Our children were able to find good doctors in Albany and local area. I’ve not meat my new dentist yet. My appointment is end of this month. Dr. De Santis I’ll always take care of my teeth and never waste the beautiful work you did. You’re not only a great Doctor but also a wonderful and kind Human Being. When I look at my teeth, I say prayer that God will always Bless you and give long life in good health. To you and your family.
Please give my regards to Colleen and her family.
Thank you so much.

The amount broken teeth and loose and broken restorations we are witnessing are tremendous, this is an important read
HPI poll: Dentists see increase in patients’ stress-related oral health conditions A majority of participating dentists have seen a rise in stress-related oral health conditions in their patients since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to data from the ADA Health Policy Institute's COVID-19 impact poll for the week of Sept. 21.
Merry Christmas and the hope for a bright season and healthy new year, from our families to yours
This is something that we have also been seeing since the pandemic began...
CBS News (12/7) says dentists throughout the country are seeing “a more than 50% increase in teeth grinding and clenching in their patients” that is likely due to multiple stressors, including the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, “there is anecdotal evidence” of tooth loss in some COVID-19 survivors. Manhattan-based periodontist Dr. Scott Froum discussed how the coronavirus and stress from pandemic may be affecting oral health.
Similarly, KRIV-TV Houston (12/4, Hayes) reported that “survivors of COVID-19 are reporting tooth loss and other dental issues among a long list of bewildering symptoms linked to the novel coronavirus.”

To our dear patients:
We hope this letter finds you and your family in good health. Our community has been through a lot over the last few months, and all of us are looking forward to resuming our normal habits and routines. While many things have changed, one thing has remained the same: our commitment to your safety.
Infection control has always been a top priority for our practice and you may have seen this during your visits to our office. Our infection control processes are made so that when you receive care, it’s both safe and comfortable. We want to tell you about the infection control procedures we follow in our practice to keep patients and staff safe.
Our office follows infection control recommendations made by the American Dental Association (ADA), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). We follow the activities of these agencies so that we are up-to-date on any new rulings or guidance that may be issued. We will also be using some new office equipment above and beyond recommendations. These include high powered Hepa/UV filtration units to reduce by over 99% airborne aerosols. Treatment rooms will also be sealed with negative ventilation.
You may see some changes when it is time for your next appointment. We made these changes to help protect our patients and staff. For example:
• Our office will communicate with you beforehand to ask some screening questions. You’ll be asked those same questions again when you are in the office.
• Everyone who enters the premises including myself and staff will have their temperature recorded every day.
• We have hand sanitizer that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. You will also find some in the reception area and other places in the office for you to use as needed.
• You may see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, pamphlets and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect. In many cases we will ask everyone to call when they reach the office for their appointment then and wait in their car. We will call you when the correct social distance exists in the office for you to enter safely.
• Appointments will also be managed to allow for social distancing between patients. That might mean that you’re offered fewer options for scheduling your appointment. We will be opened more hours and be seeing fewer patients per day to allow these protocols to be effective
• We will do our best to allow greater time between patients to reduce waiting times for you, as well as to reduce the number of patients in the reception area at any one time.
We miss you and look forward to seeing you again. We are happy to answer any questions you may have about the steps we take to keep you, and every patient, along with staff safe in our practice. To make an appointment, please call our office at office number or visit our website at web address.
Thank you for being not only our patients but in many ways family. We value your trust and loyalty and look forward to welcoming you back
Sincerely,
Dr. Louis F. DeSantis and staff
To our dear patients:
Covid19 and the Pandemic of 2020 can be described as a failure of imagination. No one could have conceived of this and worldwide we were caught with our guard down. Moving forward Government leaders will hopefully create a playbook designed to prevent and manage future health crises…
What we will be doing in our office:
Baring any further delay from the Governors office our practice is gearing up to move from the emergency care we have been providing to continued and routine dental care on May 15, 2020
What that means and what you can expect:
Protecting you while providing the exceptional care you have come to expect is the goal. Some protocols have changed but everything is being to protect all of us.
What changes can you expect to see:
• The reception area will be closed with the exception of the next person in Queue. Everyone will be expected to wait in their car or outside the building until phoned to enter the office.
• You must enter the building wearing a mask and gloves, that mask will be removed only at the direction of the Doctor or staff in the operatory
• Your temperature will be taken with a scanner prior to entering the treatment area, patients scanning with fever will be not be seen and referred to their primary care physician for follow up
• Upon entering the treatment area, everyone will be directed to rinse with a mix of hydrogen peroxide before procedures begin
• The use of aerosol producing equipment will be kept to an absolute minimum, you will notice hygiene visits being performed by hand and your visit time extended.
• Procedures that require the use of highspeed aerosol producing drills will be limited to the last appointment of the day. This will be the norm until high powered evacuation systems that include both HEPA filtration and UV sterilization are delivered and come online in June.
We will be doing everything we can, including implementing recommendations that are being written on a daily basis. You all remain dear to us. We welcome you home and will do everything we can to protect all of us.
Stay safe,
Dr. DeSantis
What Is A Prosthodontist? National Prosthodontics Awareness Week We understand that many people may have no idea what a Prosthodontist is or does. This 90-second video explains what we do, and how we serve our patients by ...
•To my Dear Patients,
As we gear up within the next few weeks to reopen our Practices, I have written Protocol that I have shared with Prosthodontists in the Northeastern US. Let me share with you some of my thoughts, that we are implementing:
Separate patients in your reception area by at least 6 feet, as difficult as this may seem If anyone can figure out how to make that work Prosthodontists can!
• Record the temperature of yourself, staff and every patient that enters your office and record it, along with questioning if anyone in their household/place of employment has been ill.
• Hand sanitizer dispensed to patients before they enter the operatory space.
• Remove all reading material from the waiting room.
• Hydrogen Peroxide rinses for 30 seconds as it may reduce viral counts
• PPP to include masks, gloves, face shields, gowns and hair covering
• High pressure HEPA/UV filtration extraoral suction units. This may become the main tool we have to reduce the risk from aerosol dispersion (on a personal note I ordered two). It is very possible that this will be the 2020 version of Dentists learning to use gloves and masks in the 1980’s
We will do everything in our power to keep us all safe, in the interim I am available for phone/video consultation and as per the rules of NY State during the Pandemic, I will see you by appointment to treat an emergency if needed
My dear patients, stay safe, by being apart now we will all be back together soon.
Dr. DeSantis
To my dear patients,
This past Sunday, Governor Cuomo has effectively stopped routine dental care with the exception of emergencies. During the remainder of this crisis we have put the following safeguards in place to further assure your safety and ours:
Dental emergencies will be seen by appointment only after phone consultation with me (917-273-7802)
If you require emergency care and you are scheduled to come in for emergency treatment, we will ask you to call the office (718)980-9769 on arrival and to wait in your car in our parking lot until we phone you to come in. This will allow the treatment room to be sanitized if there was an emergency scheduled before your arrival. Our reception area is shut down and you will be immediately escorted to a treatment room and given hand sanitizer. If you require an attendant or are in a wheelchair, we will ask that the attendant remain outside and I will come and get you myself and return you to your driver.
Stay strong and safe everyone,
Dr. Louis F. DeSantis
To My dear patients,
Together we have survived a fire, 9/11 and hurricane Sandy.
Our first priority remains your health and well being. I am so proud of my office disinfection protocols and cannot be more grateful to my staff who maintain our office at a level of disinfection above and beyond...
As per the Centers for disease control and NY state dental association guidelines, we will only be seeing emergencies during the next two weeks. Our shared goal is to facilitate people staying home and limiting unnecessary contact with other people. We look forward to seeing you as we resume our normal operating hours on March 30th. Until then my cell number is 917-273-7802. If it is a true emergency, I will do my best to accommodate you in a timely fashion.
Be safe, be strong, we know that we will all get through this together.
Dr Louis F DeSantis
For our dear patients, staff, family and friends,
Your health and well-being have been priority one since we opened the doors in 1988
In 2020 that hasn’t changed, our disinfection protocols designed to protect you in the dental operatory use bagged sterilization of instruments, surface disinfection of hard surfaces and plastic barriers that are changed between -patients.
The hard surfaces in the reception area along with counter tops and doorknobs are also disinfected. You may notice that magazines have been removed from reception as they may present a hazard, so we invite you to bring a book, i-pad or enjoy the “cooking channel” on the television.
As always, if you feel feverish or ill please feel free to cancel and reschedule your appointment.
We survived 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy together and I believe that with divine grace this too shall pass…
Dr. Louis F. DeSantis and staff
From our family and staff
A very happy and healthy New Year

I am proud and honored to announce that I have been elected the Northeast Regional Director of the American College of Prosthodontists.
It was been brought to my attention that there are two errors in the print version of this article. The title in print being mislabeled as “surgeons and architects” and the improper mis-quote “oral and maxillofacial surgeons” being used...
my apologies to anyone who took offense at this...
