The Tibetan Studies Collection at Columbia University is seated at the C.V. Starr East Asian Library.
Starr East Asian Library, which offers one of the major collections for the study of East Asia in the United States, with over 1,000,000 volumes of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, Mongol, Manchu, and Western-language materials and almost 7,500 periodical titles, and more than 55 newspapers. The Asian Division of the Library of Congress is now accepting applications for its annual Florence Tan Moeson Fellowship for 2025. This year’s deadline is midnight January 12, 2025. More information, including how to apply online, is on the Asian Reading Room website. We have also posted the announcement on our 4 Corners of the World Blog.
This short-term fellowship in any field of Asian studies provides an opportunity to conduct research in the Asian Reading Room of the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Open to faculty, undergrad and grad students, librarians, independent researchers – any and all (no institutional affiliation necessary). Please especially share with early career students and scholars who do not have access to travel funds for research.

On December 5, University of Toronto Libraries hosted a special event to commemorate the 10th year anniversary of the Tibetan Studies partnership between Columbia University Libraries and UTL. Since the partnership was established in 2013, the Tibetan Studies Librarian serves both institutions in collection development and reference services. Jim Cheng, Director of the C.V. Starr East Asian Library, and Tibetan Studies Librarian Kristina Dy-Liacco attended the event, and presented remarks along with Larry Alford, Chief Librarian for UTL, Hana Kim, Director of the Cheng Yu Tung East Asian Library, UTL, and UT faculty Professor Rory Lindsay, who gave a keynote talk.
