Our Story
Monique Lhuillier designs capture the essence of sophisticated luxury by provoking femininity, allure and glamour that have made her renowned in the world of design, and as a global lifestyle brand. Monique's innate sense of style is prevalent throughout her ready-to-wear, accessories, home and bridal collections.
Monique's love for fashion has been a lifelong passion. Enamored by fashion, Monique was encouraged to pursue her dream of becoming a designer. At a young age, she moved to Los Angeles to devote time to her craft and attend the fashion institute for design and merchandising.
The delightful fantasy of special occasions has always inspired Monique Lhuillier. While studying at FIDM, this natural inclination towards bridal and evening gowns led Monique to her niche. It was also during her time at FIDM that Monique met her, husband Tom Bugbee. In 1995, while searching for her own bridal gown, Monique was surprised by the lack of fashionable bridal options. This void in the market reignited her passion to create couture bridal gowns that transcended styles available to women in search of the perfect dress.
While Monique's career began in bridal, Monique's feminine and modern design intuition has allowed the brand to evolve into a go-to for elegant ready-to-wear. Monique appreciates that luxury can be whimsical and playful, allowing the brand to become a destination for women who understand the art of fashion. Monique's craft and techniques defy the conventions of day versus evening dressing. Most recently, Monique launched her first line of accessories – the collection includes footwear and bags that are luxuriously constructed and make a statement. Like her ready-to-wear, the accessories feature luxe fabrics and textures and exquisite construction. Monique Lhuillier remains a red carpet favorite amongst Hollywood's elite and her couture bridal gowns continue to be coveted by women all over the globe.
Monique has been a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America since 2003 and is recognized internationally as one of the foremost fashion designers. Monique has dressed celebrities and important political figures such as Emma stone, Blake lively, Sandra Bullock, Anna Kendrick, Taylor Swift, Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore, Jessica Alba, Kristen Bell and first ladies Michelle Obama and Melania Trump, among others.
Monique and Tom live in Los Angeles with their two children, Jack and Sophia. Monique's career in fashion is enriched by her strong dedication to family and commitment to philanthropic efforts.
