Navatman invites you to an unforgettable evening of dance, music, and history in this world premiere of a full-length lavani concert by artist Shivani Badgi. Typically a style of dance that does not get its due credit due to various stigmas that surround its history, Shivani works intensive research on the form with her performance prowess to tell a story of love, loss, and joy in as you enter the lavish world of 1600s Maharashtra in an intimate, immersive setting where you become a part of the story.
This is more than just a performance—it’s an invitation to step into history, to feel the pulse of 1600s Maharashtra, and to be moved by the timeless art of lavani and kathak. Dress up, dive in, and let the magic of Navatman and Shivani Badgi captivate your senses.

A more ambiguous thought process on God arises from the traditions of India, differing from than the clear cut ideas we have today. Apoorva goes back to the ancient text of the Rg Veda, a Hindu text that deals with the origins of the universe, to ask questions to herself - and the audience - of the various ways we can interpret, question, and understand the connectedness and surrender many of us find in the universe around us.

🥺 Kids see so much…and you’ll have no idea if they even like you till these pop up…I feel deeply privileged everyday to receive this kind of love and will always strive to be the human they deserve in their lives though I am sure I fail 1,000,000x a day.
The worst thing you can do is just full pause your dance journey.
Not only does it impinge on your progress, it also just feels terrible to be telling yourself "hey that lifelong dream? I just can't do it right now."
So how do you learn when life is just too busy/you're injured/you've got kids who don't give you a moment's peace/etc?
Treat it like a TV show or podcast - watch, follow along, hear the music, do it at 50% (or 10%). Do just the hands, or just the feet!
But don't leave it to the side "for now". Do it in one minute chunks, or just read the email that went out about it -
You know that saying "death by a thousand cuts"? This is "learn with a thousand log ins - one minute at a time."
This is Ruchi. Ruchi came to Navatman 4-5 years back and started kathak from scratch with us after learning for a few years as a child.
Ruchi has turned into a stunning dancer (seriously, local dance companies please DM us!) -
Inspiration to us all who have dreamed of this for forever but are always worried about the what ifs! Let be a reminder that anything is possible no matter your age.
It always surprises me how often doctors say its never going to get better.

A Happy Hour for 18+ Adultsl
You take dance or music classes here. You love the space, the atmosphere, the people - now learn about Navatman’s impact.
Navatman, as an organization, feels that its true mission is to allow each of us to find freedom, growth, and space for impacting the world around us through the arts. We do this in multiple ways, from talking about casteism, discrimination, and more through arts programs, teaching and acknowledging our difficult history, to sometimes, the simplest of all: doing our absolute best to create a safe, warm, welcoming space that can voice the needs of immigrants, minorities, and others while also allowing ourselves to heal and express our creative side through the arts.
Come join us and like minded individuals to explore Navatman’s many beautiful sides: watch a short portion of our Mahabharata film, network with others, have a glass of wine, and meet co-founder Sahasra Sambamoorthi and other members of our staff in a totally different vision and light.
We’re happy to announce the Mahabharata’s official selection for the WRPN Women's International Film Festival.
You can now watch the film by renting it. Just tap on the tag in the post!

Day 3: the juxtaposition of improvisation and structure and how it parallels real life
Tripura, path to destruction, may just seem like a translation of the tale of Shiva - but to us, the dancers, it was a way to heal the pain in our hearts from a very exhausting and traumatic 2020. In addition to this internal path for us, externally, we melded the concept of two worlds who were pointing fingers at each other - the devas and asuras - to exemplify the society we saw around us and how we as humans were leading ourselves down a path of destruction.
