A favorite model 👩🏼‍🎨 (At a recent live drawing event, I drew this sweet 8 year old. We found out we both love the books &, surprise surprise, our favorite doll is Molly!! This is the part of live drawing I love the most: chatting with the people who sit for me… even better if you’ll take me back to my 8yo self 🤸🏼‍♀️)

Dreamy seaside ☀️ (It’s a cloudy day in NYC & my to-do list is a mile long—full of good things!! just long—so naturally I’m daydreaming about this day on the pebble beach of Niolon. This painting was the first of three made on the last day I went there in late July & I remember breathing deeply over & over again in the hopes of getting as much of the essence of the seaside into my body as I could. Waves hitting the rocks & people splashing & children jumping & the train rambling above every now & again & maybe a dog barking from time to time. Counting down the days to next summer, can you tell?? Til then, looking at the paintings I made will have to do the trick 🤸🏼‍♀️ & yes this one is available, should you care for a bit of the French seaside on your own walls 😉🇫🇷)

Happy Monday from me & the gals 👩🏼‍🎨 (I hung these large scale figure paintings in my childhood home for this quick photoshoot but have since moved them to my little NYC apartment to live over my sofa before they move on to their next homes (with one of you, perhaps?? 😉). They’re framed & ready to hang (obvi) & are kind of fabulous, if I must say so myself. Approx 26x34 each & sold separately but really how great as a pair. I obviously hang them in my living room; they’d be right at home in a bedroom or bathroom too (& let’s be honest, I’m in a studio apartment… my living room is also my bedroom 😂). Have the loveliest start to this autumnal week yall!!)

A flower grows by the Hudson 👩🏼‍🎨 (This appears to be a “red sunflower” or “Mexican sunflower” (according to the “look up plant” feature 💁🏼‍♀️) & I painted it one beautifully warm September day on one of my *flower walks* around the neighborhood. These are some of my favorite little excursions, taking my paints & just moseying until I find something I want to paint, usually flowers, & stopping & working for a bit before moving on along. I’ve painted many flowers this way & I’ll be putting them up on my website sooner than later (maybe). Keep an eye out 😉)

Lake-painting ☀️ (A favorite day this summer in Provence was spent painting by a local lake, Lac de la Bonde, alongside the school. We arrived early to grab spots & got to work painting as locals filled in the places around us on the beach & in the water. This was the first time I had painted figures in the water: how could I not?? The bathers were everywhere & so lively & added so much to the scene that I couldn’t possibly leave them out. A few days later I’d go to Niolon to paint for the first time & again included the bathers there, remembering what I’d done at the lake. One session feeds the next, & on we go ☀️)

The Provence Paintings are LIVE! ☀️ (I spent a blissful month of painting in the south of France this summer & these are the fruits of my labor: 46 paintings—mostly oils & some watercolors—now up on my website for newsletter subscribers (via a password! Look at me being so high tech!!). I spent my days painting en plein air, mostly in the landscape outside of Aix-en-Provence & by the Mediterranean, & a few Paris watercolors too. These paintings will be open to everyone—no password needed—tomorrow, Thursday at 10am; if you’d like to see them now & aren’t on my email list yet, send me a note w your email & I’ll send it over 💃🏻 MERCI A TOUS !!)

☀️The Provence Paintings, Oct 18☀️ (You read that right! On Wed, Oct 18 I’m releasing the work I made over the summer while painting in the south of France: thirty-nine plein air oil paintings & a handful of watercolors, too. Whew! As always, newsletter subscribers get first dibs before I open it up to everyone else so send me your email to see everything first! Merci!!!)

Bring three friends!!)

Then & now 👩🏼‍🎨 (Today marks seven (!) years since I started painting with the school in 2016. When I arrived in Aix then, I didn’t know how to work with oil paint!! Over the next three months I made 89 oil paintings & after that I think I can say I learned how to paint in oil, lemme tell ya 😉 Practice, practice, repetition, repetition, over & over again. I took my paints around the aixoise countryside & beach towns (much the same as this past summer), to the gardens at Giverny, & taught myself to watercolor while chatting w friends over wine & cheese at night. Returning this past summer to do the same wonderful things, with seven years of painting under my belt, was a beautiful, beautiful thing (last photo). I love revisiting this anniversary of beginning painting in Aix & being reminded of the life-changing (!!!) things that come about when I approach *life* w a beginner’s mind. Really really amazing things!!!) (Oh and! I’ve decided finally to release my paintings from this summer, plus a few I’ve been working on in the studio. Stay tuned & sign up for my newsletter if you’d like first dibs on the work 🤸🏼‍♀️)

Waterbirds in situ 🏡 (… mocked up 😉 If this photo looks a little off to you, it is! (Hint: look at the plant.) I photoshopped these paintings into frames to show what they might look like in the space & can do the same for you. I find it’s really helpful to see a painting in the room & am happy to mock it up for you. Swipe to see the paintings closer up & you can shop them now on my website 💃🏻)

Roslyn in September 👩🏼‍🎨 (& isn’t it lovely!! I’m still working on a larger series from the paintings I made in Provence over the summer—to be released soon-ish, in fact—but painting en plein air is so very important. So I went to paint outside! Roslyn is a darling town on Long Island’s north shore & I stayed at a dear friend’s while I painted the harbor. A few paintings made & two are included in the most recent release of Virginia Wildlife; landscapes might not be in VA but the wildlife is the same in both 😉 The release—including oysters, herons, crabs in watercolor—was *today* for newsletter subscribers & will be open *tomorrow* for everyone else. Questions?? Send me a note!!)
