A thank you from Emily Ward:

To all of our family, friends, and friends who are family:

This is a post that I still can’t believe I am writing. It’s going to be long, so I’ll start with the most important part-

Thank You.

At the same time, thank you seems entirely inadequate in truly expressing how grateful we are for all of the love and support the Ward’s have received in the past couple of weeks.

We are still living in disbelief and shock over Mike’s unexpected passing. The truth is, I am waiting to hear that voice that we all know and love coming in the door telling me I have yet another package. I’m heartbroken that my husband, my best friend, is gone. My heart breaks even more for Avery and TJ. Avery and TJ were Mike’s world, and they idolize him. It seems impossible that they have so much of their lives left to live, yet they will do it now with his memory in their hearts instead of with him by their sides.

What I have learned these past couple of weeks is that the power of community is real and impactful. Every prayer, hug, text, card, call, and donation truly made a difference.

We are lucky to have amazing friends and family. There is no place on earth quite like Bay Ridge. The outpouring of love from the neighborhood, our school family, work communities, and folks from every other season of our lives has been incredible. You all moved mountains for us. We are eternally grateful.

I cannot put into words how touched we are by everyone’s generosity. Your support means so much and is so very appreciated. Our community showed up for our family in a way that has left us speechless with gratitude.

Someone offered me this advice as we were saying goodbye to Mike: it’s not learning to live without him, it’s learning to live with Mike differently, remembering he is always in our hearts and celebrating his life.

While I don’t know what the next week, month, or year will bring, I do know that our community has given me so much strength as I learn to live with Mike in a different way. I am honored to be a part of it.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you.
