Mark your calendars for a terrific jazz event on March 28!

Join us on Thursday, March 28, at 8 pm, for a special talk by Phil Ballman, the Queens Borough President’s Director of Cultural Affairs and Tourism. Phil will present a slideshow (with audio clips) about the jazz history and hip hop roots of Queens.

Though Manhattan is famous as the jazz capital of the world, the story of how Queens became, literally, the home of jazz, is less well known. African-American artists helped establish a mecca for the city’s black middle class in the heart of Queens, and that tight-knit community of jazz musicians nurtured the next generation of musical pioneers, who brought hip-hop into the mainstream and forever changed the music industry.

The talk will take place at Espresso 77 cafe, at 35-57 77th Street (at 37th Avenue) in Jackson Heights, Queens.

The event is free, but we strongly request that you purchase a drink/food to support the cafe. We also encourage you to arrive early to get settled with a drink/food and grab a seat.
