Fr. Christoph
Good afternoon,
We wanted to share that the 25th Precinct will be hosting their annual Back to School Giveaway on Wednesday, September 4th at 4pm until supplies last. We plan on distributing bookbags filled with some school supplies to children in our community right before the start of their school year. Please help us spread the word! Only children present will be given a bookbag.
How can you help? We are still looking for some sponsors for the event. If you would like to help us in some capacity, please contact myself or Officer Cosme, we really appreciate it. Also be prepared to send us your logo for our final flyer. Overall, we could use donations of bookbags and school supplies. Please see the attached flyers for more information. If you plan on bringing a donation to the precinct, please make sure to contact myself or Officer Cosme so we can be aware and have someone receive it on our behalf if we are not available.
Thank you, as always, for being such an amazing partner and part of our community. We are very excited to continue to serve our community with this annual event.
Thank you,

Year B
22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time
15th Sunday after Pentecost
Man deceives himself very easily. The people Jesus talked to made a real effort to be perfect. Out of religious duty and concern for integrity, they unnoticeably fell into the trap of obsession, fear, perfectionism and hypocrisy. They tried to cosmeticize their personality to transform themselves into perfect, flawless beings. Perfection has become a trap in which they are stuck. They were probably shocked by the words of Jesus, who exposed these efforts and revealed that the more a person cares about external impeccability, the more he hides his inner moral mess. We want to be perfect, precise, fulfilling our ambitions, and even maliciously critical of those who cannot boast of the same results of perfection as we do. We run away from the possibility of revealing the truth about our interior. And yet, “A dead fly will spoil a vessel of fragrant oil. A little foolishness weighs more than wisdom or fame" (Ecclesiastes 10:1).
In addition to the ambition to be an outstanding scientist, or a cocky-nosed politician, or a famous photojournalist, there is also the ambition of spiritual impeccability. The fact that someone has religious interests does not mean that he has lost his pride, on the contrary, it makes itself felt even more. True holiness is not focused on finding evidence of sinfulness in others, and this was the religiosity of Jesus' interlocutors.
In this world you have to come to terms with everything except sin. Meanwhile, we live unreconciled and we don't even know it. And it is sin that uses everything and everyone to make us live in this discord. This disagreement manifests itself externally in the form of accusations from other people. The most hidden sin makes itself known through the tendency to look for moral faults in others.
So how do we get rid of evil? By looking for it in others or by admitting it in yourself? We don't know how to deal with sin. We don't know what to do to get rid of it, and we usually choose the easiest way: hiding! We hide all this dirt as if with a lid of a vessel, and then we cover the vessel itself, i.e. our external side of existence, with angelic decorations of ambition and perfection. The prophet Zechariah once had just such a vision of ungodliness. He saw a vessel that was being lifted by two angels, but this angelic appearance hid a quite surprising secret inside the vessel. Zacharias stood amazed and stared at the vessel coming towards him. When it was quite close, he asked his angelic cicerone, “What is this? He replied: The jug is coming. He added: This can be seen in every corner of the world. Then the lead cover lifted and I saw a woman sitting inside the jug. And he said, 'This is wickedness,' and he pushed it back into the jar, and covered the opening with a plate of lead" (Zech. 5:6-9).

It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily.
Spiritual Communion Prayer
My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

AUGUST 30:~ ST. ROSE OF LIMA
THIS lovely flower of sanctity, the first canonized Saint of the New World, was born at Lima in 1586. She was christened Isabel, but the beauty of her infant face earned for her the title of Rose, which she ever after bore. As a child, while still in the cradle, her silence under a painful surgical operation proved the thirst for suffering already consuming her heart.
At an early age she took service to support her impoverished parents, and worked for them day and night. In spite of hardships and austerities her beauty ripened with increasing age, and she was much and openly admired. From fear of vanity she cut off her hair, blistered her face with pepper and her hands with lime. For further security she enrolled herself in the Third Order of St. Dominic, took St. Catherine of Siena as her model, and redoubled her penance.
Her cell was a garden hut, her couch a box of broken tiles. Under her habit Rose wore a hair-shirt studded with iron nails, while, concealed by her veil, a silver crown armed with ninety points encircled her head. More than once, when she shuddered at the prospect of a night of torture, a voice said, “My cross was yet more painful.”
The Blessed Sacrament seemed almost her only food. Her love for it was intense. When the Dutch fleet prepared to attack the town, Rose took her place before the tabernacle, and wept that she was not worthy to die in its defence. All her sufferings were offered for the conversion of sinners, and the thought of the multitudes in hell was ever before her soul. She died in 1617, at the age of thirty-one.
⚜️Reflection
Rose, pure as driven snow, was filled with deepest contrition and humility, and did constant and terrible penance. Our sins are continual, our repentance passing, our contrition slight, our penance nothing. How will it fare with us?
Gracias, SANTA ROSA DE LIMA!!⚘️🇵🇪

Miał niewierzącego ojca i świętą matkę.

HOLY ORDERS & RELIGIOUS VOCATIONS
The Sacrament of Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles, continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time. This is a sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate (bishop), presbyterate (priest), and diaconate (deacon).
All Christians participate in the one priesthood of Christ. The whole community of believers is, as such, priestly. Through the sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation the faithful are “consecrated to be…a holy priesthood.” Those who, after being baptized, receive the Sacrament of Holy Orders, also become part of the ministerial or hierarchical priesthood. The ministerial priesthood is at the service of the common priesthood of all the baptized. It is intended to unfold the baptismal grace of all Christians. The ministerial priesthood is the means by which Christ continues to build up and lead his Church.

One may also request the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick during Church and Rectory Office Hours.
THE SICK, ELDERLY AND HOMEBOUND
Please contact our Parish Priests for the sick, elderly and or homebound parishioners who are unable to make it to Sunday Mass. Confession and Holy Communion can be brought to them.
