2A/Lady Stardust/Treehouse Staff Fundraiser organized by Maria Devitt 03/21/2020

Alright, groovy people...on a much more serious note...please read..as it would mean a LOT to me and many people I truly care a great deal about.
Greetings, friends of 2A (this includes Lady Stardust, the Treehouse)-
I know we are all going through a tough time. All are affected, some more than others…some much, much more. Some of these folks that are badly affected are those in the service industry. Because of the crushing insanity of it all, MANY of our employees (our family!) Have spent DAYS, with no success, on the government site trying to sign up for unemployment. It is frustrating and downright scary, to be honest. We are ALL out of work. Entirely.
If you’ve been to 2A, you probably know how great it is, and how wonderful the staff is. I am proud to call these folks my friends and second family. If you’ve followed me or the Treehouse over the years, you know the respect I have for the coolest corner bar on the planet. I had my first beer at 2A in 1986. Myself and Donovan have been there 25 years as of March for him, and April for me. 2A means a LOT to everybody there, and hopefully to YOU.
I honestly can’t tell you how many times people have told me “I met my wife/husband here”(I usually respond with ‘so you’re here to kill me now?’ )We have watched our regulars marry, have kids, and we’ve watched those kids grow up. We’ve tried to help some through divorces, and many, many breakups! We have shared the good times and the bad times together. Wherever your ‘local’ is, I think you’ll understand what I’m saying. It’s not just serving a drink….
It’s hard to speak for everyone, but I think my co-workers will agree. We love 2A and can’t wait until it opens again. Not just for the income…but for the friendship and camaraderie. And YOU are included in that. I’ve had many customers become lifelong friends. That’s for damn sure.
Since there is no end in sight of this downtime, I guess what I’m trying to say, is, if you are in the position to help these incredible folks…even the slightest bit…it would sure be greatly appreciated. Some have families to support. New babies at home. It’s a scary time…so, if there was ever a time 2A was there for you in a time of need, please consider donating. And when this all ends…man, oh, man…we are gonna open with a BANG!

Ugh....it hurts my heart to say for the first time in 8 years and 9 months of the Treehouse, i have to cancel a show for the first time. Due to the law that goes into effect today, we have to run at 50% capacity...and one thing i won't do is turn people away from the venue (which wouldn't be fair to the performers, the audience or the bartender). I was really looking forward to Puma Perls night up there this Sunday. She had a heckuva line up of music and poetry. PLEASE support her by going on amazon and buying her fantastic books (and the newest one, which i read TWICE, is on sale at Gem Spa!) This may be this way for a while...let's hope not...AND, when we come back, it will be with a big freaking BANG! It's the best thing for everyones safety, too.....becuase...you know...all we ever do up at the Treehouse is lick each others faces! I will definitely keep you up to date. This is a rough one. Be safe, people...and you KNOW I love ya! XO Tom and Jenni and the Treehouse.

03/07/2020

Yeah, Yeah, Yeah! This Sunday at the Treehouse is Stephanie's All-Beatle Birthday Bash! That's right, the best musicians around are performing ALL Beatle related tunes...from the Cavern Club to the Solo years! I was at one of the rehearsals for this, and the bands and singers are really cookin'! Some real surprises, too, with the song choices! Gonna be a fun night of music and a real fab hang, too! Come help Steph kickstart 41 with a big Beatle Bang! See ya there! xo Tom

02/27/2020

Oh, man, oh Manischewitz, do we have a GREAT night for you this Sunday at the Treehouse...it's the return of the amazing GENE CASEY and the LONE SHARKS! Gene and the gang are continuing their residency here (hey, I don't offer these to many people, that's for sure) and they are bringing along some folks that are LONG overdue up at the ol' T.H....The Demolition String Band! That's right! Boo and Elena are bringing their magic back and we couldn't be more pleased! This is a helluva double-barreled night....Insane amounts of talent on one stage...when I see these groups, all I can think was "I REALLY should have practiced guitar more....a LOT more....!!" Gonna be swinging.... xo Tom

02/22/2020

Hey! It's Ladies Night and the feelings right...oh, what a night, oh what a night! The right, folks, this Sunday at the Treehouse is ruled by the fairer s*x! These lovely dames can SING, baby, and they are joining forces for a super-duper night up in the branches of the Treehouse! The Grande Dame, Li'l Mo (Monica Passin) has, once again, put together a beautiful night of song (and FUN!) with her own group, Monette, and Dirtbag (I love this band name, by the way!) ! Check out the singers...Monica Passin, Rembert Block, Sherryl Marshal, Lizzie Edwards, Erica Smith and Deborah Berg. PLUS there are going to be special guests! This is one solid night of entertainment, folks! Can't Wait! xo Tom

02/14/2020

HEY!! We have a really special night for y'all on Sunday at the Treehouse! Mya Byrne is back in town for a series of gigs, and we are lucky to have her back at the Treehouse! She has put together a night in honor of Valentines day called 'Trans in the Round: The Love Edition!' It's going to be a great night of poetry and music, in two sets, featuring Mya Byrne, Steph Durwin, Tara Jane Hernandez and Lara Americo! I've known Mya for years, and she is a super-talented singer/songwriter/ guitarist....really happy to have her back at the T.H., and glad to welcome her friends! I have a feeling this is gonna be a really special night! See ya there! x Tom

02/06/2020

HEYYYY! We got a groovy thing going, baby, this Sunday at the Treehouse! We have the return of one of my (and the amazing Jenni behind the bar) fave newer acts at to play in recent months at T.H....FREE LAND! They are made up of two super-swell and highly talented dudes...our buddy FOLEY (whom you might recognize as Mixer Man extraordinaire at club Berlin) on vocals and guitar, and the amazing (and super cool) Ryan Adams on drums! You might have seen R.A. pop up with us on occasion and set himself down behind the kit before at a H.A.B.'s show! We love 'im! These two gents make a beautiful sound as a duo...and I am really looking forward to hearing it again, and so should you! I love watching Ryan play drums, and Foley can sing like a little boid!
Kicking off the night we have a new band, made of some seasoned cats, that I'm really excited about....I first heard of this new supergroup through it's bassist...none other than Handsome Dan Green! I met Mr. G way back when he was playing with (and still does on occasion!) my buddy Tom Shaner, and now he's itching to get his new combo into the Treehouse...and I say 'come on up!'...The group is called The Waystrels..and features Dan, Mike 'Smokey Menorah' Bieber, Vinnie Guts and Chris Orlando (both formerly of The Bamboo Kids!) ....there is a lotta talent in this group...and I can't wait to hear it! This is an excellent night of music....and it's FREE, baby! Come early, stay late! See ya there! XO Tom

02/01/2020

Hey!! We got yet ANOTHER super-cool night for ya at The Treehouse tomorrow featuring one returning champ, and one soon to be! I am VERY happy to announce the return of one of the coolest cats around, Mr. Jason Trachtenburg...Jason graced the stage not too long ago...and it was something really special to all in the room....he got EVERYBODY clapping and singing along to his incredibly infectious tunes. Even those folks that DON'T EVER clap and sing along! His tunes are so damn catchy. Jason has been on the NYC scene for quite awhile...a veteran, if you will. One that doesn't freaking AGE, but that's a story for another day. Years back, after finding a bunch of slides and a slide projector, he formed a family band with his wife and his daughter (now a rock star in her own right)...The Trachtenburg Family Slide Show Players were born...to MUCH acclaim! He's got other projects going on...he never stops...but tomorrow...he's playing solo...and he says he's got some new tunes to lay on ya, and, personally, I am very excited..you GOTTA check him out!
BUT FIRST UP is a new performer to the Treehouse, but not to the NY music scene...Mr. Roderick Hohl has spent quite a bit of time in legendary groups here like The Silos and Mary Lee's Corvette...and he's got a kick-ass band called Yarn...this happenin' cat is playing SOLO for you...and it's gonna be GREAT. We bonded before we even met, talking online about vintage guitars....and sometimes ya can just TELL someone is cool when chatting like that. And then I checked out his guitar and songwriting talents...HOLY COW, I was right! Proud to have him enter the world of the Treehouse Family! Here's a little more: Roderick has released three albums with his solo project, Max Greene. His songs have been recorded by local artists, as well as jazz saxophonist Steve Wilson, Roots keyboardist Ray Angry, and musical legend Elvis Costello. The Treehouse show will feature a selection of new songs, performed solo. Um....did ya see that? Elvis Costello???????? this is gonna be fun! xoxo Tom

01/25/2020

Ohhh maaaaaan.....looky what we got for ya tomorrow at the Treehouse! Now we have been on a real roll lately, one crazy-good show after another....and we are continuing this streak tomorrow night......it's the last Sunday of the month...which means it belongs to that powder-keg of a little gal, Li'l Mo, also known as Monica Passin! Every single month Li'l Mo puts together a special night..and they are ALWAYS kick-ass. This Sunday is no exception....Ms. Mo is performing with her special guests, the greatGreta Tristram (great singer, great Harmonica player, one cool chick, too!) and songstress Drina Seay! When these three gals sing together...the angles get jealous (and the angels need to step up their game!) AND, one of the Treehouse all-time faves, Mr. Gene Casey, is bringing his smoking little combo to the TH. This handsome tall drink of water mesmerizes the crowd EVERY time he performs...and he REALLY knows his stuff. GREAT singer, helluva guitar player, and writes songs the way I wish everybody did....they stick in your brain for days afterwards! What an amazing bill, I must say...Thanks, Li'l Mo!! See ya there! XO Tom

01/18/2020

Oh, Maaaaaan!! LOOK at THIS!! Check out what's happening at the Treehouse tomorrow night! Now....I get excited EVERY week for the shows at the T.H. ....but I am SUPER-PEE-MY-PANTS-EXCITED for this Suday's show! It's is the return of one of the coolest, most unique, rocking-est cats to ever grace the stage at the Treehouse...Mr. Vic Thrill!! He is one man orchestra of pumping rhythm, crazy beats, wild guitar..thought-provoking lyrics....and one of the best storytellers around. This guy has lived a LIFE, man! You might remember him as the frontman for one of the wildest bands to come out of the mid-nineties...THE BOGMEN! Vic is incredible to watch and hear. You won't see another like him...and that is my personal guarantee. Google the Bogmen...and Vic, for that matter!
SO...I said to Vic...you got anyone you might want on the bill with you that Sunday? He said "Yeah, my best friend..I've produced all of his records...Morgan O'Kane. Immediately, his name sounded familiar...and like I told you about Vic, he said "google him".....hollllllllllly s**t! Wow! One review said “If Uncle Dave Macon married Bruce Springsteen their love child would be Morgan O’Kane” They ain't kidding! He hails from Virginia, and now calls Brooklyn his home. I always wish we had more banjo in the Treehouse...and here we go! Man, he is a busy cat, and check out his website https://www.morganokanemusic.com/bio. This night is gonna be sooooooooooo fun!! Yowsah!! See ya there! xoxo Tom

01/11/2020

HEY! I'm sitting here drinking way-too-strong coffee, typing this, and listening to Mirror Stars by the Fabulous Poodles! We...you can come hear the lead singer/guitarist/songwriter of the 'fab poos', himself, Tony de Meur tomorrow night at the Treehouse! A truly GREAT band, the Poodles were a unique outfit...they were branded 'new wave' by some, but I just call it ROCK AND. ROLL! We're happy Tony is back in our humble town, all the way from London. This cat has had a dual career...part musician, part comedian.....did ya ever watch the Young Ones? The episode where they get a new flat, and Mike finds Buddy Holly hanging upside down from a parachute in his bedroom...he survived all those years eating beetles and spiders. That's Tony playing my idol, Buddy! Great stuff!

After Tony charms and croons, we have.....Me and the Boys! Yep, me and the High Actions Boys...Glenn Healy, Philip Cohen, and Dekalb Illinois' own Little Craiggy Chesler, are gonna let it rip! We haven't played together at the Treehouse in a while...so we are kinda excited to let it rock! Hope you all can make it...it's supposed to be SIXTY EIGHT DEGREES on Sunday...so, girls, please were the appropriate amount (less is more) of clothing. We'll see ya there!! XOXO Tom

01/03/2020

The first show of 2020 is gonna be a whiz-bang doozie! Two returning champions are coming up the ladder to the Treehouse! Kicking it off is the one-and-only Mike "Sharkey" Edison and his dazzling save-your-soul combo Edison Rocket Train! Mike and tub-thumper legend, Dee Pop, are gonna make ya drop to the ground and praise the lord, Barbecue and Atomic Fireballs! Guaranteed to save your soul. Snake handling is optional but encouraged.
After we mop up the stage, we'll continue with Lulu Temple Motor Unit, (featuring Chris Such of the Headless Horsemen)! Last time up they nailed the WHOLE first JJ Cale album, and it was quite a rockin' feat! The vibe in the room was cool, and it was a wink-wink-nod that it was 'the place to be at the right time'....come feel cool and in-the-know, Daddio's and Mommi-o's! ...the password is "hell yeah!" xoxo see ya there! Tom

12/29/2019

Hey! this is tonight! Gonna be a great way to ring out the year...It's building up to be epic! I just heard from Jason Trachtenburg, from the Trachtenburg Family Slide Show Players, and he's got some new stuff for ya, Emily and Scott, Mr. Donen, Jahn, Little Craiggy, Mr. Mike F. (can't do this without him!) Tom Wynbrandt from the Miamis, Lovely Linda Hill...and many more! Gonna be FUUUUUNNNNNN! and...you might even see me raise a glass or two (gonna take the next few months off, soooooo...take advantage of me whilst you can!) XOXOXOXOXOXO Tom

12/21/2019

Hey! Man, this Holiday Season has certainly been a rocking one so far...and it shows no sign of slowing down!! Tomorrow night at the Treehouse, our favorite little pint-sized songstress, Li'l Mo, is bringing her scrumptious Monette group back! The angels look down and get really jealous when they hear these girls sing! Sherryl Marshall and Deborah Berg McCarthy round out this incredible group...three top-notch voices in full force..stunning. AND...Ms. Mo is bringing back her dear friend, Mary Battiata and Little Pink for a long-overdue return engagement. Mary has got it all, baby, and she ain't afraid to use it! GREAT songwriter and singer...this is gonna be one of those 'warm and fuzzy inside' nights, for sure! AND....there's very alcoholic frozen egg nog downstairs at the bar...just sayin'.......See ya there! xo Tom

12/13/2019

Jingle those bells, baby! We have a hoppin' holiday show for ya this Sunday! Kickin' off the night is the return of Jahn Xavier and the Bowerytones! You all know what a power-house Mr. Xavier is, cutting his teeth as a teen in the Voidoids and the Nite Caps...and solo he is a one-man locomotive at full speed with no brakes, and this Sunday he's bringing his KILLER band, the Bowerytones! After they slay y'all, We'll mop up the sweat from the floor and welcome the amazing WYNOTTE SISTERS who are gonna give you a really dilly of a holiday show! ! You know Daria Grace from the much-loved PI Power Trio, but here she is with her 'sisters'....I'll let them fill ya in...
Sara Milonovich, Daria Grace, and Vibeke Saugestad met through the fertile Hudson Valley music scene, where they all now live, and soon discovered a mutual love for three-part harmonies, wine and cheese, and exotic licorice. All three girls possess very distinct voices, yet they compliment each other perfectly.

The Wynotte Sisters play original material as well as genre-crossing covers from off the beaten track - from vintage Andrews Sisters to Willie Nelson to Martin Newell, they deliver an unexpected yet thoroughly enjoyable trove of holiday songs.

Home out for some three part harmony and holiday cheer!
This sounds like HEAVEN to me...and it's gonna be! Can't wait....see ya Sunday! xoxoxo tom

12/07/2019

Howdy! Tomorrow at the Treehouse we have something to really celebrate..the release of the Gershwin Bros. (with Murderers Row) new album! Dave and Lane, and the whole Murderer gang are gonna be on hand to melt your heart, make you smile, and empty your wallet a little (hey, it's the giving season, give this wonderful music!) They are the two hardest working songwriters in the biz, and we are the ones who benefit from their hard work! Glorious stuff, here, folks!
AND...whom else could fill the other slot next to these kings of melody? Why, none other than Rembert & the Basic Goodness! You all know Ms. Block from seeing her sing with all kinds of other acts, but this is HER thing, man, and it's GREAT! She's a chanteuse with an accordion, and this ain't no Lady of Spain stuff, either! This is gonna be so great!! See ya there, kids! xo Tom

11/30/2019

I hope y'all are back at the gym after Thanksgiving (hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaa!!!!) I am not. Instead, yesterday, I played a fun-as-hell little set at Rough Trade with Peter zaremba (Fleshtones)and Lenny Kaye(Patti Smith) and the incredible Don Costagno. Tomorrow, since I'm still all warmed ups and raring to go, I will be playing a special set at The Treehouse with my partner in crime, Mr. Philip Cohen! We will be singing songs going way back in our history together, and I know it's gonna be REALLY fun! I'm conjuring up some great tunes from the past to throw at Phil without warning! Ha ha!
Next, we have the Brooklyn Hillbilly Cat, himself, Sean Kershaw with his gang (band) The New Jack Ramblers! This is gonna be a fun night...and , if it's like last time we shared the bill, some of the magic happens at the end...when I hijack The NJR's.....ya never know what's gonna happen! Hope to see you all there tomorrow night! xo Tom
