As a young man with Down Syndrome, John Cronin knew it could be harder to find a job after graduating high school. Inspired by his love of fanciful footwear, John decided to turn his passion into a business – and created John’s Crazy Socks based out of Huntington, New York.

John and his father Mark cobbled together a small inventory of socks and set up a website and page. On their first day in business, John and Mark received 42 orders. Word spread quickly through social media, and two weeks later they had shipped more than 400 orders!

When it came time to open an account for their new business, John and Mark turned to TD due to its convenient hours and its support of the Special Olympics – an organization that has been pivotal in John’s life.

Now, John’s Crazy Socks is a multi-million-dollar company that aims to spread happiness and give back to the community. In addition to donating 5% of their earnings to the Special Olympics, John and Mark also share a portion of their profits with disability advocacy groups and make people with disabilities a key part of their business by offering work experience and employment opportunities.

Despite all they’ve accomplished, John says, “We are just a couple of knuckleheads selling socks. All we’re trying to do is change the world.”
