Passeggiando per il centro di Firenze!
So, I am sitting here at 8:55 am in Rome wading through the Internet checking out some IA organizations. I just came across the new IACRL [By the way, there is a bit of a chat going on here about it with Bob O and Stephen C], which has the same logo and brags of being the "new" version of Joey Colombo's IACRL. Now, that's a whole different story, especially because (and some what unrelated points) there is an already existent IACRL that has the same logo and is much more inter-ethnic, and this recently revived one is, or so it seems, founded by Roger Stone and company and very much tied to Trump! But that is not my point here.
As I was reading this 'new' IACRL website, I found the following sentence: "The greatest American import of the 20th century were Italian-American immigrants." Now, I ask you, what in heaven's name — not to offend anyone with WTF — is an "Italian-American immigrant"? I know, I know, save your typing.
Basically, these are people who want to tell everyone else [Scalawags anyone? Stay tuned!] what Italian America is all about, and yet have such a piss-poor knowledge of their own language — let alone their history — that they do not even know how to label the Italian immigrant who has come to the United States.
What I am pointing out here is not differences in thought nor rhetorical theories; this is basic knowledge of the English language and lexicon beyond the requisite functionality in order to be able to "stare al mondo" in an intelligent manner.
And so to these who celebrate "our culture, while vehemently defending our history," yet cannot articulate it in any acceptable manner, I say, go back to first-year college English and learn the difference between Italian and Italian-American, and then we can chat...
Now, pardon my closing here, but "What the f@ck!"
Heading to Rome later today....

"Whatever is a reality today is going to be an illusion tomorrow."
Today we celebrate the 157th anniversary of the author of these famous words, Italy's Luigi Pirandello, 1934 Nobel Prize in Literature.
