“Ladies and gentlemen, put your hands together for Frank Daley of the famous Daley Brothers!” That’s how I introduced him every week at Felicia’s JukeBox Live. My connection to the Daley family started in 1987 with his sister Tracy when we were young and ended up living in the same apartment on Horatio Street in The Village with another hometown friend. Then in 1993, I met his brother Jack when Lenny Kravitz was the music guest on Letterman. Lenny’s bass player came over to me at the rehearsal saying, “Hi. I’m Jack Daley, Tracy’s brother.” Big hug for my hometown bro, of course. We held that connection from then til now. Fast forward to five years ago. I was in Albany, N. Y. at McGeary’s on a live music night when a guitar player who looked just like Jack came over to my table and introduced himself as Frank Daley, Jack and Tracy’s brother. I gave him a warm embrace and our friendship was born.

We bonded over our hometown and over Music, specifically as guitarists and our careers in the music business. He played with many artists including the legend, Bo Didley. I live on the Upper West Side but found myself spending a great deal of time upstate, where we’re from. May 1st 2019, I started a weekly musician’s pro jam at The Cutting Room in Manhattan which Frank attended every week, guitar in tow. We rode down to the city together often in his van that he used to deliver his custom remodeled furniture from his showroom in Hudson. Each week, I was excited to see which guitar from his remarkable collection would be his axe of choice. We were close in age and our conversations were endlessly entertaining and full of discovery. During the warmer months, we sat on my sun porch in rocking chairs drinking cold soft drinks and just kicking it. We even had plans to hit our hometown area as “the band to see” as he was going to bring his favorite musicians together with me.

Frank Daley was a great guitar player! He knew so much music and could play any style. His favorite was soulful, grooving stuff. Since he played with me and The Throw Down every week, I felt that I had to call each one of the cats in the band and give them the news. For the first hour, it just didn’t feel real. As I was talking to Bruce Edwards, I broke down. Bruce told me something so profound. He said that Frank’s transition was fresh and he needs us to help him transition with our happiness of having his friendship and by celebrating his life and the fact that our shared journey was only joyous and good times. Bruce said this is for Frank. I really heard it. Be free to go to goodness, Frank and become at one with all. .. and thank you. Love on you,
