Markham Gardens Day is a community appreciation event for all of the residents who reside at our property. This event focuses on family relations, community awareness and engagement, as well as neighborly interactions. We believe it is imperative to cultivate healthy communal relationships with local organizations, companies, constituents, and influential persons who are dedicated to giving back to and enhancing local communities. Among those who are steadfast in community relations and attended Markham Gardens Day are Emblem Health, City Harvest, Home Depot, Nate’s Pharmacy, 92.3 Now (Radio Station), Fire Department of New York (FDNY), Elder Plan, Priority One Ambulance, Art Lab, Mickey’s Rides, John’s Catering, Dippin Dots Ice Cream, Costco, and Community Health Action of Staten Island (CHASI). Our community appreciation event allowed us the opportunity to give back to our residents, enhance community and business relationships, and promote positivity.
We would like to thank all of our staff for their help, and all of the vendors who participated in making this event a great success. Thank you!
In June, we hosted a special version of our T.E.L.L. Reading and Literacy Program. This T.E.L.L. program was run by Capital One, Health for Youths, Inc., and Citizens Committee of New York City. The program ran from 10:30AM to 1:00PM; and all participants were given sandwich wraps, fruit salad, and water.
We started the program with a brief ice breaker to introduce everyone, and then listened to the audio book, Dear Mrs. LaRue: Letters from Obedience School, by Mark Teague. After the audio book ended the children were prompted to complete an activity booklet, which consisted of a word search, sentence completion, and a get well card to Ike. The second part of the program was designed to have the Capital One representatives read aloud to the children. They read Duck Soup by Jackie Urbanovic, which was about a duck named Max who was trying to create the most amazing soup ever until something goes awry. Lastly, the children made animal puppets for their arts and crafts project.
The Markham Gardens staff are grateful for Health for Youths, Inc., Capital One, and the Citizens Committee of New York City for participating in our T.E.L.L. program.
