TrichoStem Hair Regeneration
TrichoStem Hair Regeneration is the benchmark of ACell+PRP treatments. Grow hair back in as soon as 10 days with ACell + PRP!
Thicken thinning hair, and stimulate growth from dormant follicles currently not growing hair, with only 1-2 treatment sessions, lasting 3-5 years. With ACell technology, patients experience significant hair re-growth throu
Can pattern hair loss be cured? This is a common question from many men and women suffering from hair loss. Since the genes for pattern hair loss are genetically hardwired into the DNA, there is no outright cure. However, thinning hair can be thickened, with hair density, and scalp coverage maximized for as long as genetically possible with TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration.
Although most hair loss is caused by genetics, known as androgenetic alopecia/ genetic pattern hair loss, but there are other, less common causes of hair thinning. About 95% of hair loss cases are due to genetic pattern hair loss, affecting 30% of women under 50 and 50% over 50. Generally, a decrease in hair thickness and density characterizes androgenetic alopecia. While pattern hair loss cannot be completely stopped, it can be managed by thickening thinning hair, stimulating growth, and maximizing scalp coverage. With a background in hair transplant surgery, Dr. Prasad developed the TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment first as way to improve hair transplant results. This non-surgical hair transplant alternative is customized for each patient, involves 1-2 sessions spaced 15-24 months apart, with benefits lasting 3-5 years, or more.

Finasteride is the most prescribed drugs for the treatment of male pattern hair loss. Many patients express their concern about continuous hair loss and lack of significant hair growth while taking finasteride. Finasteride is a DHT (dihydrotestosterone) blocker, which works by blocking an enzyme called 5-alpha reductase. This enzyme is responsible for the conversion of testosterone to DHT (dihydrotestosterone). In male-pattern hair loss, hair that is sensitive to DHT is subject to hair thinning and eventually disappearing. An important point is that finasteride does not stop hair loss progression, but rather it slows it down.
Dr. Prasad is the pioneer of TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment, a non-surgical method of treating hair loss and hair thinning for both male and female, with benefits that can last 3-5 years or longer. During the early development of TrichoStem® hair regeneration, Dr. Prasad questioned what the difference would be for someone already on finasteride before coming in for a TrichoStem® treatment. Finasteride can help preserve the longevity of hair follicle lifespan, but it is not able to stimulate hair growth, nor maximize the potential scalp coverage. There is an opportunity for synergy combining a DHT blocker, such as finasteride, with TrichoStem® hair regeneration. While a drug like finasteride is important to slow down hair thinning in male pattern hair loss, finasteride alone may not be able to maximize scalp coverage, especially with ongoing hair loss progression.

With more doctors offering PRP + ACell as a non-surgical solution to hair loss, it is important to know that there are different classifications of pattern hair loss, and may not be as effective if this treatment is used as a single formulation for all patients. Before proceeding with PRP + ACell treatment, an important first step is to properly evaluate the patient’s classification of pattern hair loss to know if this treatment is appropriate for the patient.
Many practices offer PRP + ACell as a revenue stream, not from dedication to treating hair loss and seen as an in-and-out procedure like a facial or injectable treatment. In addition, many of the practices offering PRP + ACell have no prior hair restoration experience, which means they lack the experience and understanding to evaluate patients with hair loss.

There are several situations that can lead to hair loss in women such as pregnancy, hormonal changes after childbirth, menopause, stress, hairstyling practices, and other factors. Some conditions are temporary with an expectation of full regrowth. About 30% of women under 50 have genetic pattern hair loss, and that number increases to about 50% of women over the age of 50. Unfortunately, there are fewer options for hair loss treatment for women in comparison to men. Finasteride, for example, is commonly used for male pattern hair loss doesn’t treat female pattern hair loss. Hair transplant surgery is routinely performed for male pattern hair loss, and is generally not recommended for most women because the pattern of hair loss in women is more diffused. This means that the thinning hair follicles are very close together, and the trauma of transplant surgery can result in loss of nearby hair follicles. In the recent past, the only established treatment for female pattern hair loss has been topically applied minoxidil, which can delay the hair shedding cycle, and extend the growth cycle so more hair can be present. Stopping the use of minoxidil can result in significant hair shedding.
Dr. Prasad developed a treatment system called TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration. This system stimulates the growth of hair that’s not growing at the time due to the prolonged resting stage of hair growth cycle. It can thicken hair that is thinning, and can extend the longevity of the hair growth cycle. This improves visible scalp coverage for over 99% of both male and female pattern hair loss patients. Hair Regeneration does involve scalp injection similar to PRP injections. The difference is that it is done once, with some patients receiving a second treatment. A booster injection at 15-24 months can thicken fine hair saved by the first injection. It is important to understand that pattern hair loss is managed, not cured.

Dr. Prasad established the use of ACell + PRP since 2011, for the non-surgical treatment for male and female pattern hair loss. He is also the pioneer of TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment, a non-surgical method of treating hair loss and hair thinning with benefits that can last 3-5 years or longer. Extracellular matrix by ACell (ECM) is used to amplify the response of your body’s own stem cell for wound healing. It requires special instrumentation to measure, mix, and deliver. Dr. Prasad’s mission is to minimize the number of treatments for hair loss to achieve maximum benefits for the longest period of time. Typically, TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration patients only require one treatment session to show a significant increase in hair growth and thicker hair. In contrast, other ACell + PRP treatments are done every 1-3 months, and with uncertain results. Multiple sessions of less effective treatments will exceed the one-time cost of TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration. Furthermore, TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment is customized to each patient’s unique hair loss classification, unlike generic ACell + PRP treatments.
When Dr. Prasad accepts a new patient for hair loss treatment, he is making a long-term commitment. Patients are monitored after 1 month post-treatment, then at 3 months, and every 6 months thereafter for 2 years. It is important to recognize that pattern hair loss has no cure, but it can be managed for maximum coverage long-term.

Many women with female pattern hair loss who consider hair transplant surgery are not candidates for the procedure. This is due to the high risk of permanent loss of existing hair since female pattern hair loss is diffuse thinning with native hair close together, and hair transplantation requires making multiple small incisions into the scalp, unlike treating male pattern hair loss where the hair is being transplanted to bald non-hair bearing skin.
Dr. Prasad developed TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration treatment as a non-surgical injection treatment, so the risk associated with hair transplant surgery is not an issue with this treatment.
In some situations, hair transplant can also be performed for women. Those with severe pattern hair loss, where the hair part has widened significantly and has created bald spots with little to no native hair, can be viable for hair transplant surgery. Remember that pattern hair loss is a genetic condition, so it’s managed, not cured; with this in mind, each patient is provided with a customized treatment plan based on their hair loss classification.

Minimizing the scars from hair transplant surgery was one of the most significant challenges prior to establishing TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration. One of the tools Dr. Prasad use is extracellular matrix by ACell, this material enhances wound healing through the activation of your own adult stem cells; this is also used to enhance the healing of hair grafts. Since most people coming in for consultation had thinning hair, Dr. Prasad recognized that the density of their existing hair was much better than the density that would be created with a hair transplant. Native hairs exist naturally more close to each other than a hair transplant can achieve, this means that reactivating hair that is not growing and thickening of thinning hair can result in better coverage than hair transplant surgery.
Now, with TrichoStem® Hair Regeneration, this approach of performing multiple surgeries to try to keep up with progressive hair loss is no longer the first line of therapy for thinning hair. It is important to remember that hair loss is managed, not cured. However, the option to improve your scalp coverage with one to two treatments performed over a two-year period is far more convenient and less risky than surgical hair transplantation.
