RUGGERO VANNI: Color Matters
Solo exhibit opens next Thursday, April 4th. 5-8pm. [email protected]

The nature of Ruggero Vanni’s paintings can be likened to the “coralline” algae encrusting deep-sea rock formations. These slow-growing patches of color expand by millimeters every year, adding layer upon layer of “paint” to their underlying structure. The end of this painstaking process unfolds a singular, gem-like tapestry for the beholder. In the eyes of the diver, the algae’s hues adhere not only to the forms on which they rest (grey boulders or jagged edges), but the shimmering refraction conveyed by the medium of the ocean’s depths.

“My works allude to natural phenomena, in a raw state, devoid of the limiting constrictions of literal representation. Nature is there, as a landscape, a view looking up in the air, or plunging down underwater. Imagery kept on the edge of recognition, so the final association is created in the mind.”

Anderson Contemporary is thrilled to present an extraordinary new exhibition!
GENERATIONS
Street Art to Classical Masters
Curated by Maxine Hoover.
This thoughtfully curated exhibition brings together artists spanning multiple generations and diverse styles.
The show unfolds a captivating narrative that spans the spectrum of artistic evolution. From a 26-year-old emerging artist Keion Kopper, whose career launched after being discovered amidst the New York City street scene by blue chip collectors, resulting in a feature at David Zwirner shortly after; to 91-year-old painter Sheila Schwid who has gracefully honed her practice over her lifetime, exhibiting her work since the early 1960’s. The exhibition explores the intersections of age, experience, and the artists journey.
Maxine Hoover, the artistic visionary behind the exhibition, expresses her excitement for the diverse showcase: ‘Generations’ is an homage to the vast spectrum of artistic talent of New York City. From the raw creativity of emerging artists to the seasoned mastery of those who have dedicated a lifetime to their practice, this exhibition celebrates the continuum of artistic expression at every stage.”
Anderson Contemporary stands as a beacon for the art community, dedicated to showcasing the diversity of artistic expression.
Located at 180 Maiden Lane, NYC, the gallery provides a dynamic space that fosters dialogue across generations, styles, and artistic journeys.

“When words are not enough, painting arrives. In my approach two roads are taken:
A natural, Hudson River School path of light and drama-filled grandeur that encounters energetic animated gestures, muscular surfaces and bold strokes familiar in Abstract Expressionism.
Beneath numerous glazes and opalescent layers swaths of paint dash about this stage and often emerge from the lower depths of which there are many levels.
Freezing the action allows a probing slow-motion breakdown of the components that comprise the canvas.
Think of a frozen lake: leaves, twigs, nuts, fish, are all suspended in ice at different depths and angles.
Piercing the surface, thick islets of paint interrupt a placid color field and create vast non-linear perspective from the root to the fruit of the gesture.
Tension is created by the juxtaposition of animated bursts of paint with the slow contemplative layering found in paintings of the Hudson River School. The invitation to explore this amber-like world is now extended.
Sometimes the brush is mightier than the pen.”

HANS NELEMAN
‘REGALIA REDUX’
Mixed media assemblage box
34 x 24 x 4 inches
$4,000
-
HISTORY ON HOLD exhibition on view through Sept 22nd!
-
In this masterful assemblage, the artist employs fragments of sensibilities from the past, evoking a sense of nostalgia and timelessness. The distressed effect on the artwork further reinforces this sense of time's passage. Several of Neleman's works also feature details of sculptures from Roman times. In Neleman’s transformative artistic process, these elements are re-born, and are particularly noteworthy in his surreal assemblage creations. Speaking to the title’s broader context, his hand-torn collages provoke a discourse between abstraction and figuration and the harmony of opposites.
